I have been doing a lot of romance writes lately so as not to be typecast thought I would offer you another tale of the sea. The Bra Dor Lakes are a large body of waters surrounded by Cape Breton Island in my native Nova Scotia.
Notes:
Bys....slang for boys
Souwester....an oilskin hat worn by old sailors on the sea
Nor'easter...one of the most feared storms on the waters
Lifelines...ropes to tie to the boat so you can not ger washed overboard
Lands end...the very tip of land that juts out into the sea
Beaching...often in the old sail vessel if masts were lost and they started taking on water the Captain would point her towards the nearest beach in hopes of grounding her far enough up on the sand to abandon safely

The Waters Of Bra Dor

Raise the storm sails me bys

We’re in for a Nor’easter

When that banshee screams

It’ll not be a welcome greeting

…on the waters of Bra Dor

Secure down all the hatches bys

Tie on your old Sou’wester

Hook up all your lifelines

She’s bound to be a dousey

…on the waters of Bra Dor

Rain driving down in anger

Thunder plays the music score

Ragged lighting bleeds the sky

Froth the waves around us

…on the waters of Bra Dor

Look at the skipper’s frown

A leeward tack for sure

Trying to find safe port

But no sign of the narrows buoy

…on the waters of Bra Dor

Waves as high as buildings

Crack of our mast’s timber

Pray now to your Gods me sons

Looks like this is the end of us

…on the waters of Bra Dor

The Captain spins the wheel

We wonder just what for

He tries to make land’s end

It may be the last hope for us

…on the water’s of Bra Dor

Aye, God was in that cockpit

To steady Captain’s hands for sure

To drive us safe up on a beach

Far from the pounding surf

On the waters of Bra Dor!

This piece reminds of the tv show, Deadliest Catch. I could not do the things they do with the weather that hits them. All for some crab. I could feel the hard rains and salty spray, my friend!

I always love your sea poems. They are packed with imagery and I always get a wonderful spirt of inspiration after reading them.

There is nothing wrong with writing romantic poetry. It is a huge market, however, your tales of the sea are awesome and I always looking forward to reading them.

On the waters of Bra Dor, there is a lot of emotions going on. I can relate any poem to romance. This pen, is outstanding and I look forward to reading your next masterpiece.

~hugs~

hate it when i hit that button before i write...well done, a good picture you write, couldn't not imagine what it was like for these old sailors. For many knew the sea was quite the cruelest mistress. So we won't bran you only a romantic writer. yet the sea can be just as romantic in the writing about. Lady J

This a beautifully written poem
Your choice of words have painted a picture
Of the ocean and the storm
I have never been through a storm
But truly enjoyed this

Those that hadn't been on a north Atlantic storm promoted by the Nova Scotia don't know what is a peaceful passage through from the sound of Quebec into the mad maelstrom of angry waters in revolt that smashes everything and gives everybody with a taste of what's like in Hell without the water.
Great piece!
