Old Spice and Cigarettes

By: Felix L. Perry

The smell of Old Spice and cigarettes

Sounds of Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline

Her lipstick smacked on paper napkins

Drinking draft and cheap red wine

We danced to all the crutch songs

I smelled her sweet perfume and sweat

Keep her glass filled for me bartender

Soon that golden band she will forget

I got a sixty-nine Camaro waiting

In the tavern’s darkened parking lot

It’s a tight squeeze in the back seat

But man, that ladies really looking hot

Blue jeans tangled round our ankles

Her bras hanging from the rear view

And Saturday nights moans and groans

Will soon be just yesterday’s old news

Grab a French safe from the glove box

Baby croons oh that feels so good

Windows steamed like frosted glass

I’m so hard it feels like wood

Then a blast of light and a rap on the window

Brought my head up to see the flashlight

A burley cop grinning in at me says

“Son, zip it up no more of that for you tonight!”

Oh those times of free love and ripple wine..I guess I am older than you, Fee, my times were in the back seat of a 1965 Chevelle SS, That hippie girl and her high school sweetheart that turned out to be her husband for thirty years! Wow we surely have grown up, finally...oh pooh! Thank you for such a nostalgia look at your teens..I loved this poem.

I still love the smell of Old Spice. Ah...the back seat and a good tune on the radio. Gees, has it really been that long ago? Good one, Fee. Elizabeth

Old memories always hang around. Late night rendezvous, back seats of cars, steamed windows, cop shows at just the wrong moment. Woody gets put away for another day.

Been there, did that, but not frosted windows around just the topside of a Harley and two cops laughing their heads off and drivin' away.
