The Ghost of Maggy May

By: Fee

A ghost on the beach on warm moonless nights

She waits alone till she sees the sunrise

It’s the spot where they made love so long ago

Where he told her such pretty sweet lies

He said “Maggy May I’ll soon be off to sea

On the new moon’s early tide

Oh me darling Maggy make sweet love to me

And on my return be my bride…”

So he hugged her and kissed her sweet lips

As their clothes quickly became part of the sand

The fair maiden with a promise surrendered

Then he left with but a wave of his hand

He was wed to another with wee ones at home

Nay his love for her was not but a lie

Her salt tears fell to join the brine of the sea

As she walked out into the ocean to die

So if you walk on that shore on a warm moonless night

Some say you will see a naked maiden at play

Do not tary, do not linger…go quickly, go quickly away

For she still seeks revenge for the man who once sinned

That’s the ghost lady they call Maggy May

All grown up, in my mid-teens, when my parents moved us all down to Florida, mom wanted a narrow porch added to the back of our new home. As she was admiring the carpentry taking place, finally, I said, "Ma, shouldn't this porch be a little wider? She answered with a funny chuckle. , "...it's not a porch, it's a widow's walk, and now that your father finally made it to the water's edge of sunny Florida, I have a feeling I won't be seeing much of him!", I'll be pacing this porch waiting for him and his "other woman" to come home!
Personally, I would still make it wider . . . pacing makes me more MAD! LOL!
Poor Maggy May . . . dissed for another, forever tasting salt!
I enjoyed this poetic tale, Fee

Wonderful storytelling!

In Kowloon, Hong Kong there is a mountain top shaped like a woman standing there looking out to the sea. When I was growing up the legend I heard was that there was a woman whose husband had gone out to sea, and he was supposed to be back, but he had never come back to her. The woman stood on the mountain top everyday searching for sight of her husband's boat, but upto this date he was nowhere to be found.

The woman had been standing there for so long, she has become the mountain top itself.

Just another story to ponder about women looking out to the sea for their loved ones.

But what a beautiful imaginative story you came up with, I ansolutely love it, this couled be a character in a book. Great job!

Doesn't matter what time in history these stories are from. Human nature never changes with the same theme sprinkled throughout. You would think we woman would wake up and realize God's way is the only way to avoid such pain. Well Done! Deborah
