Have you ever sat alone and stared into the glowing coals of a campfire...

Poem Artwork

Night Vision

By: Felix L. Perry

The fire burns down to the embers flare

Hypnotizing shades of orange and red

Highlighted by the ebon dark of night

I avoid the empty sadness of my bed

Star spotlights in the mid-summer sky

Crickets singing me songs in the grass

Yearning trapped in a plastic lawn chair

Chimes keep the beat in steel and brass

Eros time stalled in a state of disgrace

I often think of you, do you think of me

Above the North Star offers a guiding light

Whispers, whispers nothing in life is free

I blow a kiss into the night breeze

That breeze of time spanned space

Say goodnight to what could have been

In soft tones of my leather and your lace…

I have daydreamed too many times to count while staring into the glowing embers of a campfire. Your poem evokes feelings of whistfulness, lonliness, and longing. The power of your pen is amazing!

Anna

"Yearning trapped in a plastic lawn chair" - what a terrific line, Fee! I love campfires and can often be found sitting there with my dog waiting for my owls' nightly hoots; they like to talk back and forth to one another and I can't help but wonder if they're divulging life's secrets waiting for me to understand. I thoroughly enjoyed this poem.

Fee, this is written from a romantic lonely heart. Next time you are looking into a fire get up, take your clothes off and do a chanting around it, and make your wishes come true, forget the kisses in the wind, go for the real manifestation!

Loved your poem.
Peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"

I just wrote a campfire poem, too; truly one of my favorite things to do - staring into its mesmerizing flames.

To be a little jocular about it...you wrote this poem with Viagra? the color seems a familiar one with all those ads!

PS. Leather and Lace? you gonna kinky on your old years yet.

So very a visual piece that I could smell a faint smoldering ember and the distant flicker of firelight. You have brought the reader to sit next to you in the night and your poetic thoughts. Just nice writing!

This is a very sad poem, Fee. I envy the people who have exactly what they want. I keep thinking if they can do it, then why can't I? ~ Sara

I think like this all the time, too, and I think sitting alone makes these kind of thoughts touch the heart even more. It is worse when the love is there and much else seems pointless without it. Heartfelt poem, indeed.

Fee,

Absolutely wonderful. Nothing is better than the great outdoors, but how sad the thoughts of your love one.
