Santa’s Book of Hope
Entering, old Santa stomped shaking snow off his boots
Hung his damp hat and tattered red coat on a hook
Then sat back in his favorite chair before the fireplace
Lit his pipe, put his feet up, gripped a well worn book
With his eye glasses perched low on his big red nose
Santa opened to a page well marked and began to read
It brought him comfort now his work was finally over
A book of good deeds that made up for world greed
He read of little Johnie who always visited the seniors
Of Suzie who always helped her Mother with the chores
A story about Christine giving the sick a helping hand
And one about Rose who for all kept her open doors
Santa read of the brave soldiers far off in foreign lands
Read of children’s pets who from a fire saved his family
Who gave their all just so freedom’s bell could ring
Of fireman and policeman who risked their lives daily
It was in the early morning hours Santa faded off to sleep
His book of smiles resting on his belly as he gently snored
Dreams of a better world where peace on earth survived
So all the sadness would never again just be ignored…
