Why I Pray

  I pray because prayer works.

When my first wife died of cancer, I was devastated.

I was lost, so I attended a weekly Bible study.

In time, I talked to other women but they had so much baggage that I wanted to walk away.

My Biblical instructor recommended that I write down a list of all the qualities I wanted in a women in every single way.

I filled a page of over 20 items with some big request.

I wanted a woman who could understand what it’s was like to lose a loved one to cancer.

Our Bible group prayed over my request.

I thought  I might find someone who had a husband who was deceased that could relate to what I was going through.

Then I recalled that I already talked a lady like that and she was angry at God and too full of hate to love again.

No, I did not need that!

I was a skeptic but I also had faith in God.

God has the wisdom to provide anything.

One day a person that was buying my house was admitted to the hospital.

I visit him.

He was a pastor of a church and had several children.

So I decided to bring some photos of my kids to share with him.

When I arrived at the hospital he had just checked out.

So I asked the nurse to use the phone at an empty desk.

She said, “sure” and smiled as she walked on.

When she came back to the desk we started talking and I shared my photos of my children.

To make a long story short, I asked her to dinner, she accepted, and the rest is history.

I checked my prayer list and God had provided everything I requested and much, much more.

She was 29 at the time, never had kids and knew how to comfort folks with cancer and other illnesses.

I was a Captain in the USAF she was a Lt. Nurse in the USAF.

It was a perfect match.

Now over 25 years later, I have nothing but praise to report.

Recently my wife and I were without a home because we sold our home but could not find another suitable home within our budget.

So I asked my wife to list all the things that she wanted in a new home.

She wrote four pages; then I added a few more items like a metal roof and boat dock.

We took the list and prayed over it a lot.

Yes, I was really skeptical because four pages was a pretty big request.

The next weekend our realtor took us to an area of town that was different from the rest.

I was a bit uneasy but I decided to keep quiet and go along with what was to be.

So after viewing a few homes we had just one more to see.

The last home we viewed was owned by a builder and it was really nice!

Our realtor also said all the furnishings were included in the price.

Once again, we prayed and God provided just like before.

We looked at the four page list and the Lord had provided everything that we requested and more.

We pray because prayer works more than anything we know as such.

Our God is an awesome God and He will do the same for you because He loves His children so  much!
