My parents and teachers used these expressions when I was growing up as a kid in Brooklyn. Now I find myself using them more and more. What was that thing again?

The THING-A-MA-JIG for the WHATCHAMACALLIT

When you finally become a senior and are over 55

You are very thankful that your wits have survived

But it’s O.K. if you forget the name of things

For English/American slang can cover almost anything

It’s is that THING-A-MA-JIG for the WHATCHAMACALLIT

That I need to have right away

Please get that THING-A-MA-JIG for the WHATCHAMACALLIT

Yes, got to have it, right now, today!

Don’t ask what it is, because really I cannot recall

It’s the THING-A-MA-JIG for the WHATCHAMACALLIT

Today it's the inner parts that flush the toilet bowl

That THING-A-MA-JIG for the WHATCHAMACALLIT

It’s so important that those parts all work very well

For without that THING-A-MA-JIG for the WHATCHAMACALLIT

Our home sweet home would surely smell like _____________!

Amen!!

John, besides being entertaining, you have reassured me that all the missing words I search for these days have not flown to your house. I can't help wonder what happened to them. Now was that yesterday or last week that I was trying to remember that one word---y'know, the one that means...well, I can't remember exactly what it means. It will come to me, maybe tomorrow.

Thanks, John!

Those "The THING-A-MA-JIG for the WHATCHAMACALLIT" have better work, or else there is no magic in the air but foul smell. Everyone needs those The THING-A-MA-JIG for the WHATCHAMACALLIT"!! Does this explain why there are so many assh**es in this world now who think they can do their magic on women? - Just wondering...

Let me fill in that word you can't remember.… Hell!

So that's the reason they came up with that word. I was just spending some time trying to remember the name of that foul-smelling (skunk like) fruit she gave me for lunch. I keep thinking "avocado" but know that isn't it. So I will use Google, my memory enhancer.

Finally found the name of the whatchamacallit-- Papaya!

Oh, you had me howling on this one! My father used to talk like that although he came here from Finland when he was four years old. Man! We had better know what that "thing" was that he needed!

Love ya!

Eh . . . I lived in New York, married a New York girl. I loved the city. Loved the different cultures, food, etc., and yep I have heard that expression.
