Getting Me Back

(the poem)

Tissue thin transparent bits and pieces

by the millions I gave to you…

To be received, to be tended or

to be rendered useless as you deemed fit

old inhabitants of terra firma.

Slivers of my soul….

What did you do with these pieces of me?

Where are the misplaced microscopic stars of my spirit, where are they laid?

Did they dissolve beneath a soft autumn rain?

Or burn in the heat of a cruel summer day?

Were they consumed by the dust mites of fate?

Giving me away was easy….

Getting me back seems nearly impossible.

I saw a fleck of glitter this morning,

caught in an abandoned web of time.

I retrieved it ever so carefully, pulling away the tiny choking strands; polishing it in the palm of my hand till it shone bright like a minuscule star… exploding… and

I recognized it as the twinkle I once saw

in a smiling photo of me.

Love the old family photos of happy faces...especially those of children. The accompanying text was poignant.

Keep smiling, kid!

A perfectly beautiful poem with an especially beautiful last verse:
'I saw a fleck of glitter this morning,
caught in an abandoned web of time.' (wow!)and the rest of this verse was pure magic and could stand alone as a poem in itself also I love the photo above the poem.
Best wishes always to you and yours

From what I read that little bit of glitter of the smile you once had now exploding will cover your universe with happiness from here on out. It takes a certain satisfaction with who we are what we stand for to be happy with just what we have.

Your words are very beautifully chosen and describe your situation perfectly.

Sometimes a photo, a piece of music, a scent is all it takes to reawaken powerful memories that awaken deep emotions. Nicely expressed, Janna. Love and best wishes,

I know, from past experience, what an old photo can do for the heart and soul and motivations. A very transparent poem. What you describe: Empty. Betrayed. No happiness. You trusted someone with your heart, they shattered it, and threw back the pieces. Heartbreak is like a tsunami. It fully inundates. Sadly some never reclaim what was lost. It comes back differently. Took me years to heal after my first wife left me for a $500,000.00 a year man. But that didn't last either. Took only six months to destroy them. The ordeal stole something from me that has never fully returned. I remember our cat running after her down the street, the night she left, and getting hit by a car and dying. Very heavy symbolically and spiritually to me. I realized that if I wanted to survive I had to evolve emotionally. Not easy. Someone better came along some time after that, wounded as deeply as I'd been in life, and she made me a far better man. With her we've both accomplished more, and better, than we ever had before. I wish you well. I'll read your book. Peace... r
