En-Light-En Me!

Walk into the cool,
                fragrant depths
                              Of the forest
                                               on a mid-summer's day.

Seek an opening
                 in the leafy arch
                                 Of the rustling treetops
                                               where a shaft of warm
Topaz sunlight
                   filters through
                                 To the ground;
                                                sit, in the circle of light.

Breathe...deeply, slowly
                   inhaling the scents
                                  Of pine...wildflowers,
                                                 and, the yielding earth.

Be still...
                    listen...listen!
                                  To the cacophony 
                                                 of sound...

The trill of songbirds, mingled
                    with the incessant humming
                                   Of a myriad of industrious insects
                                                 and the low groaning, of heavy underbranches.   

There is the soft scuffle
                     of the distant scampering
                                   Of  squirrels, playful and chirping
                                                 tails flying high,
In an ardent game 
                     of tree tag,
                                    While at the edge
                                                 of the forest,
In hushed silence
                      - and with much dignity -
                                      The daisies bow their lowly heads
                                                  in deference to the wind.

Inhale the smell of wood
                       of rock, and
                                       The fertile earth,
                                                   absorbing countless shades Of green, just within
                        the forest walls!
                                         Observe...
                                                    just one tree
In its incredible
                         state of verdure;
                                          A spectrum!
                                                    of jade to teal
Moss to mint
                         lime to emerald
                                            To nile - and ev'ry
                                                     nuance of hue, thereof!

Ponder its size
                        and shape
                                             Its breadth,
                                                       and height, and depth.
Ingest the intricate
                         ...design
                                             Of each limb
                                                       and leaf...

All different
                        ...in their sameness!
                                                As they reach
                                                         toward the light.

Now, lift
                        ...your hands 
                                                Before your eyes
                                                          and see!

They, too
                       ...different,
                                                 In their sameness
                                                            yet, united in

Their difference...
                       and behold!
                                                The proof,
                                                            and power
