Memories and Snowflakes

Everybody is talking about global warming and something is causing a change in our weather patterns, of this I am sure. My memories of childhood days still carry a joy of snowball fights and sliding downhill on packed down snow in the street. This is an attempt to capture that in poem.

Poem Artwork

Snowflakes fall and soon will melt away just as my youth has taken flight.

Still, memories linger of fun filled days when we made snow Angels and had snowball fights.

Oh how those days seemed to gleam like the luster of new fallen snow.

We would roll the snow into huge snowballs and make snowmen standing in a row.

They were our prisoners and could not move so where we put them they would stay

Until the warm weather came along in spring and they slowly would melt away.

I cannot count the hours I spent watching the snowflakes dancing in the sky.

They would twirl about in the air as they floated lazily downward and drifted by.

We would build walls of snow and create a fort from which we had many fictitious battles to fight.

We would cheer the wintry winds that picked snow from the ground and caused it to once again take flight.

There is great beauty in a single snowflake but if you multiply by thousands their beauty is overwhelmingly greater.

A glorious show of natures force; a gift from our creator.

Yes, Lew, I remember these good times well. When I was in my youth, the cold never bothered me at all. Now I can't stand it. I'll just be satisfied with those warm memories.

Love & Light always and in all ways,
Joseph*
