Woke with a stiff neck this morning.
Wake with a stiff neck most days.
Go to bed with a stiff neck too.
In fact, got a stiff neck all day through.
Driving when you can't look side to side,
just ease out and hope you don't collide.
Watch the mirrors with religious zeal.
Keep from harm with slow-moving feel.
She says that I am stiff-necked,
because I don't buy her things.
I'm just pinching pennies too hard,
And stiff arming diamond rings.
They say that I am stiff necked,
not open to be saved by Jesus Christ.
Since when does a dead man come,
to save a stiff neck from its vice?
When he comes I will get up and walk,
and traipse on water too.
I'll fly through the air like Superman,
just to get a different view.
If the stiff necks get off their religion,
and let stem cell research go through.
I'd get up and walk much sooner,
than any dead man could do.
Don't have to walk on water,
or fly through the air with ease.
I'll just buy an airplane,
and a pair of water skis.
Stiff neck's not caused by attitude,
or the nagging of a spouse.
It's caused by stressful movement,
Just plain overuse of the mouse.
So I'll just grin and bear it,
until that great day comes.
I get my fingers back in use,
and my stiff neck turns and runs.
Good satire this may be but powerful social and political commentary it is also. The irony has real bite and the humor explodes through every line. Moreover, considering that this is satire, I really cracked up to see the Google ads for pain relief pop up next to this poem:-)

I don't know enough about stem cells to comment on how they work or if they would work in your case, but not allowing research is wrong and eventually will be overturned just like blood tests, amino synthesis, DNA testing, vaccinations, cloning and every other (should only be God's work) medical issue that has come up in the past. Knowledge is power, and the ability to heal the sick is not the same as bringing an end to eventual death. I wonder, also, as candidate selection for stem cells begins to include the masses if the success of the procedures will be lessened, as the recipients are no longer “perfect” candidates like the research cases were. I suppose then will come the arguments about why insurance doesn’t pay for the procedures and welfare does, just like transplants these days. We need to understand that prolonging life is not necessarily in the best interest of medical insurance companies. Hopefully there will be a procedure to give you back your mobility, Ron. Fortunately you are able to get around in the meantime which is some improvement over what would have been available to you in the past. Change always seems to be such a slow process but I believe that stem cell research is here to stay and will one day be the state of the art procedure for dealing with many diseases and limitations due to injuries.

It will happen. Don't forget, the research continues, even without US government funding. There are private labs and other countries working on this method of treatment.
Every scientific discovery is a miracle waiting to happen. If God did exist, then God gave us all the tools we need to do whatever we dream. We just have to follow those dreams and use those tools to our best advantage.
