Coincidently, my birthday falls on the day all the hype predicts the end of the world. I don’t believe the hype, but that we are in for a rough ride by overpopulating and abusing our home planet.

I was born on that cold December day,
long ago and far away.
When all the prophecies came to rest,
and humanity was put to test.
When the Mayan calendar and I Ching,
both predicted the very same thing.
Time would come to an end.
The Bible, and Nostradamus said,
all our trouble would come to a head.
A time of hunger, pestilence and fear,
when we would lose all held dear.
When Edgar Casey predicted the end,
and we wouldn't know foe from friend.
It is quite clear that it will be by fire,
the Sun's last rant, its funeral pyre?
Whatever it is, the time is near.
Scholars and media spread the fear.
I plan to celebrate my birthday that fateful night,
have a drink, go to bed, and turn out the light.
This is so well written, and makes you wonder if this is not another Y2K. Remember the hype of the calendar turning to a new century? Nothing happened. It could be the Mayan calendar simply ended. No one said we were going to die, it said there would be major change. This will be right after we elect a new President, maybe that has something to do with it. Thanks for your insight.
I have always been fascinated by the Mayan's Fifth World. I'm not so sure they predict an end of time as much as another cataclysm. I think the point here is that civilization is not linear and we have seen borth and cataclysmic close to a number of eras. The earth and mankind are far older than any of us presume. Whether the date is correct or not, as another reviewer mentioned, there are indeed both geologic and spiritual upheavals on the horizon, so I'll wish you a happy birthday, in advance!
I certainly don't believe that the world will come to an end ... however, I do believe that the Creator will be intervening (at the appointed time) in the affairs of man because he has so utterly mucked up his stewardship of planet earth. I have no doubt that a major shift is coming; physically and spiritually. As to the date - no man knows the hour or the time, only the Father who is in heaven.

The people who predict dire prophesies are usually wrong. Off hand I don’t know any who were right. However, I will predict that everyone will die and that will be the end of the world for them. Interesting poem and subject.
the world has come to an end so many times it's amazing we're still standing ... then again, something is brewing in the air and earth and sea as well as mankind's hostility ...
actually it may not be a "crystal clear morn, it Bush's environmental policies are never turned around in time BUT, I agree it's the planet or Time isn't going to end. So you're born on the soltice eh! Interesting. Still, it's amazing that the Mayan calendar was at least able to pinpoint the era during which we might possibly in the next 20-50 years approach, if not global extinction, at least the end of this civilization. And the fact that they were following the stars and precession is as far as I know how they kept track. Unusual!
