The over-the-hill crybabies are having a tantrum at everyone’s expense. Time to pop their ballooned buffoon expectations.

 Shutdown

I think it's time we all shut down,
jump on the bandwagon before it's too late.

Not get out of bed in the morning,
do what we like -- it's so great!

And cry when we want to make a point,
the sympathy vote we'll never berate.

Have our way with green eggs and ham,
fill the airwaves with our spam, I am.

I am the ego and you are the lamb,
must do what I say, or the door I'll slam.

In the face of your intelligence,
as though you were dumb.

Like Nero at the Circus,
I'll turn down my thumb.

Or suck on it in my own selfish way,
I get the cheesey while you get the whey.

So let's all shut down to get our own say,
we've got plenty and can waste at bay.

Peons in the poor house can work for a change,
while we wallow in luxury and rearrange.

The world to our liking without lifting a hand,
magic of our politics has made us so grand.

The free market is the only way to live,
take all you can, much more than you give.

Let's all shut down and get rich the right way,
it'll trickle down to ya, just shut down and see.

And if you believe all this baloney,
you're a much bigger fool than me.

"The world to our liking, without lifting a hand"

Actually, that could be the modern day motto of our so called Congressional 'Leaders.'

While government employees don't get paid during this Government Shutdown, our happy 'Leaders' still get paid for doing nothing, and their elaborate health care benefits continue as well.

Nice rhythm, Ron - I can just see the rap in my mind, almost had my feet moving, true.

Great socioeconomic commentary also. ;)

Only hesitation, should have said bullshit, instead of baloney. Yeah, I know, it might offend some, but aren't those who might be offended the very hypocrites you're talking about? The essence of your poem is, after all, the dung slung at the media every day in their photo ops.

As always you nailed it and shut down the cover...the whole thing is funny really, unless you are living off the government, then its kind of scary...keep up the good work or keep putting it down so we all can read it in the humor you intend...e

You have nailed it with this one. I hope everyone on AD reads this and passes it to others, and we finally, finally, vote them all out and start over. Unfortunately, so many have already become nasty rich off the taxpayers (and I don't mean their salaries), that they won't have to care. Still, we must do something. Great write.

Trickle-down? That is just an excuse for the rich to keep their "hard-earned" money, which they have plenty of that they could spare to their network of employees, who work much harder than these fools. I agree with you in every aspect of this poem, as the rich have 10x the wealth, where they could give half of it away and still be insanely rich, and we aren't asking to be living in constant luxury, just that they pay their fair-share.

And to the government, and especially to the Tea Party, we are putting you on notice. Well, I've had them on-notice for more than a decade.

Great poem, Ron, very insightful, and as mentioned before, right to the point! I look forward to reading more of your poems.

Humpty Obama smirked on the wall
Shoved off it by Boehner he had a great fall
He landed in the pig sty where the two wrestled on
While Wall Street gave odds that the market was done
The people were watching and could just roll their eyes
No cooperation amongst idiots our Nation's demise
Like a loud fart in church with no place to hide
You'd think these two sphincters could finally decide
To put an end to the madness before it becomes clear
That we don't need the government and that's what they fear.

Good one, Ron. If only the corporate press would stop pretending that the Right is just as 'right' as the make-believe 'left' ... both just play a game so we'll think we've got a choice. Wall Street and other oligarchs win no matter what and some of us get 'trickled on' - meanwhile the nation's wealth keeps streaking out to the Caribbean and Switzerland.

I keep saying I'm going to turn off the TV and put myself into a bubble, with the hope of one day waking up to find that all the things going wrong in this country is only a nightmare. I hate what is happening to us, and it does not have to be this way. It appears to me that all people want is evil; they want nothing to do with what is good. I could go on...and ON...AND ON, but what's the point. And you're right, Ron: All this is nothing but baloney...a big roll of it, I might add.
