Some of us have built a life of clutter and complexity without focus and purpose except to please others. Sometimes, all we need is self-examination and starting over to feel better about ourselves.

 Clean Page

White on white is all the rage,
nothing prettier than a clean page.
Where one can start over,
with the wisdom of a sage,
where one can start over,
start a new age.

Leave the clutter of verbiage behind,
the twitter and texture of whimper and whine.
The incessant roar of nonsense chat,
the picture me this and picture me that.

What's love got to do with it anyway,
the lady sings to show us the way.
Silly mood swings and saccharine lies,
wasting time while precious time flies.

Time to start over with a clean slate,
it's easy to do and never too late.
Check your ideological point of view,
is it someone else's or is it you?

If it's someone else's, time to reflect,
write on that clean page a reality check.
Is "follow our cause" what you want to do?
Or is it that you really want a new you?

So get busy today, on busy in your life.
Who needs aggravation? All that strife?
Start over clean, and start over right,
start over clear, start day or start night.

But do start over, on that clean page.
You'll feel a great burden lifted,
and younger than your age.

You'll feel free for thinking and creating,
your new life. Cut that umbilical cord,
with your thoughts and words like a knife.

Write your own story as you go along,
Sing as you write. your own tune, your own song.
Nothing can stop you after you're free.
You will fear nothing and love all you see.

So what's the holdup? Don't hesitate.
Erase that hard drive, before it's too late.
You've only got this precious life to live,
time's flowing through it like a sieve.

Start over today and make a breakthrough,
tomorrow, refreshed, you'll wake up a new you.

When my life seemed to go down the drain. I stopped, thought things through, made a plan and started a new page in my life. Good advice here and a good way of thinking.

Written with rhythm, it vibrates with the yearning of the soul to start over again with a clean slate.

Very uplifting and hope-filled verses, Ron. I appreciate the philosophy of the new, white, clean page. Your metaphorical offering works for me. Love and peace to you,

Sage Advice and oddly enough, I thought of our pal Matlack when I read this, and scanning the comments below, I see that he obviously did too.

What a truthful poem Ronald. Silly mood swings and saccharine lies,
wasting time while precious time flies.

I agree, how many minutes do it take the spirit to leave the body and never return? Yep, time out for the non-sense.

Beautifully done. We do write our own story, even when we don't know it. Each day CAN be a fresh start.

Ron I think I may have needed this poem. I've never read greater wisdom, a new page can be a wonderful thing to start. Thank you.

Great message Ron. Life puts so many weights upon us that sometimes we go through life like an old car with mud inside the wheel rims. Some of the mud finally gets thrown off but then dang, we hit another mudhole.
We just have to be able to make it to the car wash.

Good write Ron. If only it were that simple. When others depend on you it gets a little more complicated. My brother figured it out his last words to me were I love you Luke with all my heart. The next morning they found him hanging from a tree but he was free.

I, for one, am always reinventing myself out of necessity or whim. To preserve my own sanity I look at the dawn of each day as a clean white page to begin anew.

Your poetic words of wisdom should be embroidered, framed, and hung on a therapist's wall.

This about sums up everyone's life, the past is the past, the future has yet to be and only the present is now. We seem to put off until tomorrow, a lot, but maybe there might not be a tomorrow for everyone. Thanks for the reminder friend.

Truth be told, as you proffer here, only we humans determined to stay immersed in our habits. Habits are not innate, they are learned. So, in order to start anything anew, we usually have to unlearn. Oh, the number of unlearned habits we take to the grave or urn. Sadly, few people will lift their couch-potato mentality up and move some new blood around.

Eh . . . Although you never came right out and said it, it's never to late to start over. I think I'm my own guy, and my thoughts are my own thoughts. Still, we are all tempered and affected by what goes on around us and how we react to the same. I started over in October 2010. Sometimes I find myself slipping back into the person I used to be, but quickly and decisively, leave it behind . . . Hopefully to be buried forever.
