One year, when we threw a lantana plant from our flower bed over our 6 foot fence into the wild right-of-way for a high power lines behind our house, it caught hold and grew to be over 8 foot tall and a source of food for bees, ants and hummingbirds until a big mower came along and cut it down.

Flower’s Power


Can you imagine what it would be like,

if everyone knew the power of flowers,

to renew, encourage and excite?


To greet us in the morning sun,

with their cheerful faces open bright.

and their alluring fragrance spreading,

all day into the evening half-light?


Both a joy to see and smell,

while providing for the great and small.

Insects flourish from the nectar and pollen,

while hummingbirds hover above all.


If you see a wildflower where it shouldn't,

think twice before you cut it down.

For wildflowers are just like all the others,

serving all nature without a frown.

Wonderful! I am of the ilk who believes that wildflowers (most wild things for that matter) ought to be admired and appreciated but otherwise left to their own devices. A thoughtful and enjoyable poem, Ron.

This is beautiful, Ron, and so true. I don't know why people are so intent on doing battle with Nature. They may win in the short run but in the long they're only slitting their own throats.

My father and grandfather hated wild roses and common buttercups for some reason. I'm sure that any farmer or rancher would understand why whereas I can't. I believe such beauty should be allowed to flourish.

I love your spirit, Ron! Exactly right. Unplanned flowers are just as beautiful and worthy as any other flower. If only we appreciated all of God's creations with such gentle kindness.

WeI I live in a condo and we are not allowed to plant flowers in the ground. We have a wild flower in front of the house and I almost attacked the gardener when he started to pull it. Love that flowers l that has sprung up against the odds

Most appropriate, Ron, that you should turn to flower power and we move into seasonal spring after many have suffered the harshness of winter (but not me here in Florida). A fine reminder how love and refreshing wild flowers can be.

Yes, and Yes! In my running days, I used to train on mountain passes above LA and had many a joyful pause at wildflower growth. Thanks for posting.
