Huum! Two weeks, eh? Well, Kimmy, if you were me, you would select a bunch of inspirational/spiritual CD dust them off...pop them into the CD player and get cracking, while thinking, "I can do all things through Christ, which strengthens me..." But alas, you're not me, Kimmy, so you might have to engage Molly-Maids...I guess. I'm not sure about the kids...or hubby for that matter! Not much help there.
All the same, I hope all goes well and you are able to enjoy your visitors in a spanking clean home.
As a kid I used to clean out the coal fire then dust and vacuum afterwards to win my Dad's approval. My motive was his to obtain his permission to go to the cinema or swimming pool etc. I wasn't the only kid in the village who worked this wee scheme. Would that kids today were motivated to do the same then we hapless parents would not need a special day to appeal to.
Loved this write, a look at reality! Been there done that! Had a days notice once...yeap, inlaws on the way! Oh no! Panic...but it all worked out, as I am sure yours will too! Enjoyed the humor within, great write!

laughs, been there done that...one day I just let go of the need to impress my mother in law and you know what....my mother in law found it a great pleasure to also lend that extra hand, she was a treasure to me and she said she loved feeling needed...who knew? Happy Mothers Day
LOL!! yeah sometimes we have to be inventive to get what we want in life...women are the world's greatest negotiators. Cute poem, I hope your kids chip in; if not, know that your inlaws are there to see you, not to "white glove" your house. In the long run, it is the love that they will remember not the dust and spotted carpets. Try tempting your kids with before and after photos, offering a "prize" to the one who does the best job on their project. Sibling rivalry is a powerful tool.

Oh Kimmy you have me laughing on this one! We could use a pair of new sofas too. Betwen kids and cats they have the "very warn look" and I have sewed them where needed once to many times. Besides, are they coming to visit with you or your house? Enjoyed the write!

When the children were young I taught them well. if their rooms didn't get cleaned up or at least hidden from view of the floor and I had to do it. Everything on the floor was thrown into the hall way. Anything that was not picked up from the hall way went into a green garbage bag and out the door it went.
If cups and dishes of theirs where left in the other rooms I would throw them from what ever room it was towards the kitchen. and green garbage bags were used for anything thing that didn't get picked up after it was thrown to the bottom of the stairs.
The learned real quick and by the time they were teens (except for the son's bedroom) how to stuff everything they owned under the bed fast on clean up day. My son's room took a slightly different tactic when he got older.
As far as the in laws visit...I found out they only come when you are living with their son. lol... I think we all know the feeling. Lady J

I haven't tried the threatening their lives bit yet,
but when I yell, not often, the kids move.
Their Mom does too much for them..

We both are allergic so, we can't skip it even if we want, and bein Spring + pollen + dust it is a joy to continuosly go over and over and over and over the house.

Sounds like our place... Lived in. My mom was a cleaning fanatic. She died at the age of 52. Who was left to clean. Enjoy life. If loved ones love you they will understand.

I'm going to cross this line Kimmy and tell you, it's only my wife and I, and we have the hardest time getting around to clean house. My wife had two little poodles but they're gone, she had a hard time keeping them clean, no more dogs for me. I feel you is this down to earth true life verse. In fact we're at this moment trying to get ourselves together to clean some house. After a hard work week, I'm still sitting writing and reading poetry, it relaxes me, maybe a little too much.
