Gone in a blink.........

( A Christmas treat written with fellow poet Staci Gansky Wagner)

 All those little people,
in funny suits they dress.
Working in silence all year long,
now it is time to clean up their mess.

Floppy pointed caps complete with bells,
with red and green suits fit for elves.
Inside the workshops are filled
with toys,
for good boys, girls, none for
themselves.

Motorized cars, dolls, gas station sets,
working farms, school buses
and airplanes.
Teddy bears, ballerinas and music boxes,
Barbie dolls, cowboy suits and
smoking trains.

Santa's helpers have done a fine job,
even Mrs. Claus is as proud as can be.
Time to fill the sacks with magic
and glitter,
get Rudolph ready to light the way to see.

Children everywhere are excited as
can be,
time is so near, they cannot sleep a wink.
Carrots for reindeer, milk, cookies for Santa,
better be quick, he will be gone in a blink.

Off they go shooting into the starry
night sky,
sparkling young eyes filled with
excitement, elation.
Big red bag full of goodies, oh my how
high they fly,
stayed up, sun starts to rise, full
of anticipation.

Wonderful morning, though red eyes, so
very tired,
toys, wrapping paper, bows scattered
all about.
Children laughing loud, smiling, proud
and so wired,
cookies, milk all gone, one carrot left,
they shout.

Watching from above presents quickly
unwrapped,
not even a glimpse of the speedy sleigh
in the sky.
Time for the Claus's, elves, reindeer to
take a nap,
Christmas is of the past in the blink
of an eye.

Their greatest gift is filling children's
hearts with joy,
North Pole will prepare for Christmas all
over again.
Behaving, long awaiting that wished for
special toy,
anticipation will now last until the new
year ends.
