Why God?

              Why God?


Why God when one spends his life,
working long and hard into the night.
Only to find in the sweet golden years,
all that was promised has now taken flight.

Why God?

Once young, virile and strong,
life as a whole has taken its toll.
A Veteran from two different wars,
each day the flag flies high on a pole.

Why God?

Pension, savings, medical secure,
a family man who always provided well.
Now life has taken a dishonorable turn,
disenchantment, lies, who do we tell?

Why God?

A family nurtured through thick and thin,
pinching pennies, a cherished wife.
Body serving the penitence of time,
broken, crippled, a lifetime of strife.

Why God?

Now through circumstance beyond control,
before the ink dries all is wiped out, taken.
How do you cope, where do you turn,
all hope is lost, feeling forsaken.

Why God?

Living under an illusion of lies,
this once land of plenty has now elapsed.
Give me your tired, your hungry, your poor,
your young, ill and dying now collapsed.

Why God?

Knees raw, rough, red and swollen,
eyes and mind subtly fading away.
This man to be honored, a lifetime of service,
yet quietly sitting, continuing to pray.

Why God?

A nature still filled with love and gentleness,
seeing through eyes shielded from fear.
A heart full of love, a spirit unyielding,
grasping for all that is good, holding it near.

Why God?

A silent spirit within the presence of God,
faithfully following taught lessons of old.
Family and friends held close and dear,
smiling tenderly, into the unknown, the cold.

Why God?

With all this knowledge we now celebrate,
the life of one so very deserving.
A traditional recognition through "Father's Day",
for many years to come, preserving.

A moving summary of the promises and hardships of life written by one who has shared more with family, friends and community than she gives herself credit for.

So very touching, Karen, and deeply emotional. We all question the why's sometimes and, sadly, we don't always get an answer. This hits home for me with my father, an honorable man, a veteran who proudly served, living his last days in a nursing home suffering with Alzheimer's and one can't help but question why. An excellent construct Karen; your heart rings clarion here. Seems that there are many things that go unanswered. Hopefully someday we will understand why there is so much suffering and indignity on this unraveling planet.

Thank you Karen for a blest Father's Day poem and you are a blessing from God, I know Robert must be quite Proud of You because I am! God truly is the answer bending our knees in prayer is the way: we call God answers! We forget sometimes if it is the Lord God we choose we can't loose! Peace!!!

God does not waste anything at all. He is truth and he dispels all lies eventually. Illusions are like scabs and when they are pealed off, they cause pain and leave you raw, but it is always better to know the truth as you know. This is a wonderful poem and tribute to a man dear to the heart of God. Bless you, J'nia

Only God knows the whole story that continues to unravel. But I can say that greed is the root. It's crushed a generation's life's hard work and given all fair play the boot. My father warned me this was coming. He knew because of bad times past. You'd think that I would have remembered. But no I'm just left aghast. That's a tribute to my father, I just seemed to have miss that boat. We all need to listen when our dads try to share their life's experience. It really is for our own good. At church the sevice a few months ago..was 'Why would God allow such suffering'?...a video was shown of a family documenting each day with their baby,,,as he had not much time to live..at day 99 they released 99 balloons for him to celebrate the days they had with him... sure puts life in perspective...It is God who gets us through the suffering...as there are no promises on earth.

This was well written and certainly filled with a lot of emotions. Wonderful verses and some great imagery! I had a bit of trouble with the small font but it did not take away from the power it has!

Nice work Karen...and a thank you for taking time to wish everyone a Happy Fathers Day...poeticly we challenge the very thought of our own question of God...and yet it is that very thought or question where we reflect into the cycle of daily routines of work, family, and friends. Fortunately we can find that glimmer of Light that keeps us traveling forward into the hands of our maker...

When playing chess with Him, I have asked a few times "why God?" and got a rumbling "mind your own business...and how long it will take? its your move now"
But He looked tired, no angry anymore like when those jerks decided that prayers in the school was offensive to the atheists, oh boy! He went bananas then! and decided "hands out" of man business for a while and see if we catch on, with apparently we haven't done.
So, "why God?" shouldn't be "why man?" instead?

Karen my eyes are misting even as I write this for although it was written about a war vet (perhaps someone close to you?) I felt like you were almost telling my own story. When we have to make choices each month between food and medicines that keep us alive, when we have to go to bed each night wondering where we will be living the next day, when all we have to show for thirty years of service to our country are scraps of framed documents on a wall then there is something terribly wrong with our system. As for the Father's day a hug, a kiss and a smile from our children and grandchildren are all we need to make things better...that is God's answer.
