Every night
I leave today behind
By going far away
To other lands
And other times.
In the course
Of eight hours
I fly
On the back
Of Pegasus,
Have a romance
With a faceless lover
From my past
(Or is he from
My future?),
And find myself singing
Before a cheering crowd
Inside
The Sydney Opera House.
I only return
When sunlight invades
My bedroom
And draws me,
Often resisting,
Back to the present
Where I reluctantly rise
And greet
The prosaic reality
Of my life
With a sigh
And a promise
To journey again...
Tonight.
Lately, my sleeping has been pretty dreamless. On the other hand, you seem to enjoy your dreams a great deal. Maybe it's time to start living out those fantasies in the real world. You'd be surprised how much real romance brings back your you.
I assume your performances at the Sydney Opera House and with your faceless lover were two separate events? Just kidding. A nicely written flight of fancy.
Deemed One of the Top 10 indie Fantasy releases of 2010 by Fantasy Book Critic, and listed in the first ever Publishers Weekly Indie Select issue, the original 235k word epic title was written in longhand in a Texas prison cell by M. R. Mathias.
