Goodbye Old Friend
By La Belle Rouge

My Lake, each day you kiss
the shores of my land and my soul
you are like an old, familiar friend
cherished in my heart now forever

i have witnessed your many moods
cerulean, smooth as a heavenly sea of glass
when the breeze lays low on mornings
and the sun caresses your face

gray and fierce under dark skies
when in upheaval you churn
in the unforgiving winds of a storm

black in moonlight adorned with diamonds
that sparkle across your ripples
while crickets sing arias of love

if you should open your depths
what treasure might an explorer find?
and if your waves should cover me
would i drown in your discontent?

i will leave you soon, My Old Friend
no more to sing in concert
with your twilight frog chorus

no more to lift my eyes in awe
with thanks to the God of Heaven
just for making you my neighbor

dreamers like me will come and go
we will sit by your banks, walk your shore
try to peer into your depths
and pray to the heavens above you

we'll wish we could flow free like you
then one day we will be no more

but you, thing of beauty
will be a joy forever

It just shows that we can be as emotionally moved by Nature as by Living Beings... in a way, water is "alive", I guess. This tugs at the heartstrings, whether it is "you" who is relocating or whether some despicable act of devastation is about to befall this dear body of water. Soul-stirring, La Belle. TY Kate xx

Dear Belle,

Whenever I visit nature's beauty, I always wonder who may have come before me and who might come after me.

Love & Light always and in all ways,

Strong yet gentle pen of ones favorite sights. Lots of depth to these words that mirror the depths of the lake.

No nicer and poignant words to leave an old friend with has been penned, especially an old friend who has meant so much . . . We do find it necessary to ease on down different roads from time to time, but it is always good to know that old friends are always there for us . . . Good tidings in the days to come . . .

The beauty of nature
As with this poem
Can't be replaced.
All we can do is follow the trail
With steps to retrace.
Hearing that "Twilight frog chorus"
That put a smile on my face.

Beautiful tribute to pleasures received from a treasured jewel of nature. I'm going to take this as a metaphor for the disproportionate longevities of lakes and ladies, and not something with a sinister portent.
Love and {{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}} my friend,
Leland
