Nice metaphor once again from one of my favorites. Life is sometimes like the changing leaves of nature's seasons. We all have ups and downs and deep valleys that sometimes feel bottomless. But, as the song from "Annie" says: "The Sun Will Come Up... Tomorrow."
I never have to doubt when opening one of your writes that I am going to be awed and this one is no exception, you bring the trees of fall to life with a breath from your keyboard and tender fingers. Thanks for sharing such beauty.

Not only is this a reflection of color, but of one's life. Our "color" becomes more vibrant with age and wisdom, and when we die people see us for who we've been [true colors shining], through their tears and pain.

Hi Belle - it occurred to me recently that i am going to have to look very hard for Autumn on this island of Eternal spring, and i felt quite sad about it - however, vicariously this poem does it for me! I bought a camera today, rare retail therapy, intention is to go look for the colour red, and any signs of Autumn - the transience, and your descriptions - 'and only when their end begins true colors burst into view' - reminded me of Japan, temples, haiku, the incredible autumn forests that are so alive with vibrant 'ending is beginning' colours, and the steamy Onsen spa pools in the middle that smell of minerals and the peat of leaves - so i think this poem of yours is a bit of an inspiration! thanks Belle - Nicky x

You took me from the forest to life in this work. I see so much of each of us changing like the leaves. We, with our many colors and changes in shades and hues. Sometimes the true colors are radiant as we become positive in nature, and, then, sometimes the colors are drab and fall like when we find other "true colors' in life and relationships. This is a very deep write and I enjoyed your pen this morning.

True colors, seeing by the birds being alarmed by the proximity of winter, or by the squirrels collecting the last nuts, or for the lovers with graying hair blending among autumn leaves.
The clorophyll maybe is gone, but not the kisses from summer.

True colours... they shine throughout the "whole life of the leaf", and are beautiful, all of them, from the beginning to the end... which is not really the end, but the completion of a cycle - the natural cycle of infinite beginnings... from apparent ends. Would this be why there is always a golden smile shining true... a glorious tinge of passionate red... and verdant hopes glimmering through... "the tears and pain"?
