The relentless sun beats down with July heat in the month of April ... drought conditions once again. The storms have moved on to ravage other parts of the Nation, bypassing us once more ... it's so dry. The grass gasps and turns a jaundiced pale; if rain does not come soon, it will be past the point of rescue. The time of burning comes roaring in on tongues of flame licking the horizon, moving towards us. Same like same, one day to the next, the pattern stagnant ... fear of storms or death by fire: which is worse? (c) 2006, Karla Dorman.

At this point, Karla I would opt for even the most horrible of storms, even if it meant that I would not be able to leave my house. The earth is brittle here due to lack of rain and I fear that the summer will bring blazes to the Bosque and all of the creatures who depend on the Rio Grande for water, food and shelter will become the victims. There is duality of life, of that we can be sure but this year, we have had all the dry and none of the wet. Next year I will probably be complaining about all the snow and rain and an extremely long and difficult winter. It is hard to please we spoiled children of the earth. ;) We live in a land of plenty, dispite our floods and our droughts.

We have seen plenty of rain, and we have more coming, it's gotten so many people are loosing homes to the flood...
