... From ashy, tear-stained skies, poetry began to fall: ....

Poem Artwork

Who knew I would become the
StormSpinner.  Bad clouds used
to thunder me out of bed with their
vivid flashes of lightning prophesying
my imminent doom.

Wanted to be a meteorologist
but fear of storms drove me down
the basement every time it rained---
some brave weatherman I'd turn out to
be.  Forecast:  Panic!!

One blizzard, two indirect strikes
from lightning, three (or was it four?)
floods and remnants of a Category Five
Camille later, joined the service, moved to:
Tornado Alley.

And it's lived up to its name:  six,
now.  All have been weak, but when
the roof goes, does strength matter??
Once it's gone, puppy's gone.  Don't have to
chase:  the storms find me.

A day of disaster was my salvation:
from ashy, tear-stained skies, poetry
began to fall:  no shelter to hide within.
All I had: four walls of words and pictures
to help me survive.

Have been spinning storms, since.  I
stall their forward progress one stanza,
one image at a time:  attempting to give the
extended to end the terror, once and for all---
you're reading it now.

You are quite the story teller, my friend, the pics are great, but you're so talented that you doen't need pics, your stories have a life of their own!

Your phobie is our blessing Karla. Without it we'd miss out on all your good stuff!
You can aways live in Utah. No tornadoes here. So the roof stays as does the puppy :-)
Love,
Becca~

Very evocative piece Karla,
written with energy and inspiration.
I believe there is a reason for everything
and this love of the elements, this fear and fascination
show a lot of you and your determination.
I have enjoyed this a lot.

From your poem, Karla, it seems you've been at the "eye" of every storm in your vicinity. I can just imagine the fear and the inclination to be duly concerned about them. I think its great the way you weave your poems from your experiences and feelings about storms. I watched your sky pictures on youtube and those are some great shots.

These lines are quite good Karla, and the gist of your write is supported with fine imagery.

Now I know...and you do it well...challenging or not! I too saw the ravages of Camille, and Gloria, Juan, Elena...lost everything...things.. the weather seems to follow me too.. Tornadoes, hurricanes, hailstorms like the last one in the Panhandle of Texas...even in Nebraska..but I recall in Iowa, a tenant who was American Indian had a corner unit on the top floor...would not move...twice hurricanes and lightning/thunder storms destroyed his unit... He refused to change to another apt.. we rebuilt and down it came again...same way! He said "It won't matter where I go...the storms follow me"... Sounds as if you both have something in common. You are a wonderful stormspinner! lindalaw
