of all the blooms in the field,
you chose me. others were
far prettier, more colorful -
but there was something
special (you said) that made
you want to fly in closer.
when you picked me, that's
when i began my dying.
flowers need light and water
to grow. at first, you could
not wait to show me off. as
time went on, i faded: your
words stung as others caught
your eye. you left our home,
looking for sweeter honey. i
hear you've been a busy bee.
i hope you're happy, pollinating
those blossoms with your lies
and great big plans. didn't get
it, did you: could have had all
the honey you wanted, if only
you'd stayed here with me ...
The hurt comes through this poem and using the image of a flower and a bee perhaps enables some busy bees out there, to maybe consider how it feels to be on the receiving end of their meandering ways.
Excellent, excellent poem. Well put together, effective- and the photo is stunning... thankyou Karla.
This reminds me of my parents and the reason for their divorce. Very creative, Karla, but also a relevant topic in our morally-declining society. Hugs,
Sheila
Once sampled, how could any bee not return again and again
to savor the nectar of such a lovely (and loving) rose?

Great depth of feeling here, Karla. Bees are a good metaphor for fickleness, yet they are true to their mission. They gather nectar from everywhere. It's best not to pin hopes on a bee to be true to one flower. Perhaps it's another being you should seek.

bees, fickle and to busy to stop and smell the roses -- they just want to make honey -- what a narrow perspective they have -- there is emotion in your poem Karla - I love it -- love be your companion and peace and joy your comforting thoughts my dear friend -- Jon Michael --
Touching, sad and sensitively beautiful.
"when you picked me, that's
when i began my dying" metaphorically and
in reality sometimes it is best to admire a thing of beauty from
a distance rather than to try to make it your own.
Enjoyed the many folds of meanings that can be captured throughout this poem "Busy Bee"
All the best,

I love the simile with the roses Karla. Remember, his loss, not yours. Silly men; they never know when they've found the right one.
