A ‘Confectionate’ Portrait
Of the Lincolnshire Wolds
Or
A ‘Sweet’ Autumn Scene


The buttery melting sun
Plays hide and seek
With marshmallow clouds
That are the toppings
For the crumbly, chocolaty
Brown muddy peaks
Of the Lincolnshire Wolds
Turned and churned
In ripples and folds
With hints of mint green
In the distance seen
Rolls of wheat
Are the colour of fudge sweets
Meadows of buttercups
Are honeycomb treats
And across a field nearby
Sweet pea flowers lie
Glimmering and shimmering
Like icing sugar glazing
Next to sherbet white sheep
And liquorice black cows grazing
Chocolate box
Rustic farm cottages
Dot the landscape
And a glut of fallen down leaves
Rusty russet red
Or chestnutty nutty brown
Dusts the country ground
Rustling, crisp and crunchy
Underfoot and all around
