Snow For Christmas

SNOW FOR CHRISTMAS

i think of the christmases spent in the cabin
when water froze in the outdoor window boxes
and snow drifted high against our back door
i think of those times and i want to go north
to watch lazy snow falling softly on mountains
sit beside a warm hearth and sip spiced rum
while the rest of the world is locked outside

that rustic cabin must be filled now with dust
and mice who have decided to make it home
sometimes i wonder why i don’t try to sell it
and yet i hold on to it, i don’t actually believe
it is for memories, memories are still with me
here and there, under palm trees, under stars
i think in the back of my mind i have known
that someday I would want to return to winter

winter on a mountain with someone to cherish
a warm heart to fill the frozen places in mine
a warm body to fill the double bed in the loft
where we can be inspired by falling snowflakes
and enchanted by twinkling of faraway stars
as we watch them through skylights above us
i feel the need for hot kisses on a cold night
and someone to sip spiced rum by the fire with
i think it must be snowing there tonight and
i want to go north for the first time in years

This sings to me, DJ, I've not seen snow for so many years, not known that crisp. cold brilliance, those moments of snuggling to keep warm always had a special place in the heart and still do.

Yup DJ, it's nice to remember, to reminisce and write about, but to actually have to deal with that cold,,,, frozen pipes, shovel all that pretty snow, put on tire the chains and all the other “crap” that comes with it..... Take my advice; stick with the memories and the palm trees under the stars. My three granddaughters have never seen snow and they all think that a nicely decorated palm tree is very pretty. Like your poem, but I don’t want to live it again.

Beautiful, and I say that even though I have ten months worth of snow and cold weather here. The atmosphere you paint with your words is overall cozy and warm. I don't know about the mice and the cob webs though. :)

Okay, so I love to drive, I have a whole month off, and a great navigtation system in my brain..I never get lost,,directions please?? and we can have lots of spiced rum and whatever the soul wants to do in that cozy cabin NOrth? East Coast or West Coast?

What an awe inspiring poem, filled with longing and growth of spirit. You sound so grounded and alive right now..You have been healing your heart and that's a beautiful thing...



Honestly DJ, you deserve to have your cozy time at that cabin, even if you are alone, you still can enjoy it.


Just remember to bring a vacumn or broom to get all those cobwebs and mice away! Not my favorite two things..

Lovely work here, it totally stimulated me..

I would also love to go here
I have wanted to visit Colorado
since 1994'ish I think, and now
even more as you describe it
sharing this with someone would
be wonderful too, and it just so happens
I like a little nip of rum, or brandy
or....surprise me :)
