This is probably three or four poems – all related to my own understanding of my life purpose. So, consider these loose thoughts… I’m posting as is for now. :) D.

Long Road to a Lonely Call

Cold
winds
swept the driving snow in wide circles
that winter

my small voice drifted through shadowed valley,
haven for forlorn souls, invisible and

forgotten,
cast out from saintly elect,
so loved and
warm.

            Snow-blind, I wandered
through vacant fields of white, hearing
only echoes of the life I’d known. Pain pulsed
            beneath a frozen landscape filled
            with souls in agony.

Alone
among them
I cried because I was
one of them.

Then Creator called me back, blindfolded and
crippled, out of dark into light, into world that

wanted none of me,
to show love is true st when
heart finds beauty in all
humanity.

I stumbled, spun around, lost my way.
Some laughed. Some watched in silence.
But a very few who dared to love
in spite of darkness and pain
            that had blighted me.

Ice
thawed and
spring flowers bloomed in far meadow
that spring

I first understood I was neither
the luminescent pearl nor its oyster home,

but grainy sand,
irritating, an annoyance to
world I’m here
to serve.

            Scattered to the winds,
I had thought God done with me.
Tossed out into a lonely sea, I’d presumed
He had no use for me. But
            seasons change.

Change
comes slowly,
reveals itself in infinitesimal refinements
over time.

An ocean of truth changed love’s tide in me
as, reluctantly, I followed sandy footprints

into dark
to be carried back to light. And so, Spirit
moves me ever on, leading where I’m
needed most.

(((dawn)))

fragmented thoughts combine to make one dynamic read. haunting, yet compelling, the reader is drawn to find out the resolution of the question penned, and the answer is not what i expected...but it is the right answer...thank you for taking me in a new direction, the RIGHT direction

(((HUGS))) and love, karla.

BRAVA!

I like what you've done with the format, Dawn. I truly flows as idle mind wonderings. Your ponderings reflect a universal question: why are we here? And you said it so well: "I'm here to serve" -- We often forget. Thanks for this beautiful gem.

So much hinted at and explained in this, Dawn. It is both beautiful and haunting; comforting and disturbing. You hold this tension so well in this finely-etched piece which, given the enormity of the range of things highlighted, is remarkably uncluttered. An amazing journey and a roller-coaster ride through the psyche and spirit, but what remains undaunted is the will and desire to yield to a god-given purpose that is inherent in that your life has been created to have meaning and a goal. This is a wonderful "signpost" to all who would come after you on that self-same exploration and road. TY Kate xx

Dawn:

Sometimes our scattered thoughts make a lot of sense, and they are the honest of our feelings and emotions. Well-done on this piece.

Well Dawn, all I can say is you must think in masterpieces! This is as close to brilliance as one can get.
Every word seemed to reach from the page and pull you in.
Breathtaking.

this poem has a glacial beauty and truth, a gelid wind scouring the heart into greater honesty and deeper soul reflection. I love winter landscapes----- some mulled wine or whisky with cloves would be the perfect complement to the 'cauld blast' outside.
