Good morning all...this afternoon I plan to do a little christmas shopping, which for me always means picking up a little extra here and there for the local hamper program or a family in need. Today will be no different, except I am doing it a bit earlier this year...hoping to get a jump on it. It is never to early to start giving...

Sunlight twinkles over crisp russet leaves,
As balmy winds blow through fall sleeves,
And sparkle on many a rosy apple cheeks,
Before winter arrives in gradual sneaks.
Dancing dewdrops slide slowly to ground,
As delightful fairies play without sound,
And ugly trolls dance and chant out loud,
Before scaring off the wee pixie crowd.
Harpsichord music tinkles softly in the air
As magical fingers scamper with care,
And whimsical songs land upon deaf ears,
Before adults’ breakdown feeling the tears.
Children suffering in silence and dread,
As mothers struggle to break open bread,
And Christmas comes to the land of many,
Before visiting those without hardly any.
Shopping stores with bright lights shine,
As every child mails his wish so fine,
And scrimping pennies hoping to replace,
Before another sad day mars a child’s face.
Turkey carved, ready to be devoured,
As this mother’s happiness is soured,
And tears once held in check, begin to fall,
Before just giving into it, once and for all.
The doorbell ringing breaks the revelry,
As children shout happily, it is a delivery,
And mother arrives, unable to believe her eyes,
Before she screams and with delight she cries.
Boxes chucked full of gifts, and food galore,
As outside there is nobody seen at the door,
And surprised expressions, the children dawn,
Before mother questions, where have they gone.
Outside, a caring family watches the happiness,
As the children learn of charity, doing with less,
And remember the feeling for another full year,
Before building the tradition of giving out cheer.

They tell me a dollar makes a difference
And growing up poor without a pence
I have taught my children this special gift
Hoping they too will feel this wonderful lift.
This year my family is making gifts for each other. My daughter is a chocolate and fudge maker, my daughter in law loves painting ceramics, while all the boys enjoy working with their hands. I, myself, enjoy many crafts and will fill some boxes with slippers and mittens a plenty for the annual hamper drive.
Everyone needs a hand up occasionally...maybe you have one to spare as well.
Before you know it, it will be here!
