A Cowboy is what I had planned to be.
Fierce and daring, the fastest gun in the west!
Having to live on the prairie never occurred to me.
I thought that the South was where cowboys lived best.

Sadly, my ambition was not meant to be.
I learned to my shock, I was "just" a girl.
Cowboys were afflicted very grievously…
they had to be boys! I wanted to hurl!

I next set my sites on ML Baseball, you see.
I owned a ball and a pitcher's mitt.
What other traits could Baseball decree?
Boy, was I shocked at the news I would get!

My father, who had just recovered from affirming to me
my shocking cowboy news, had to inform me that yet
another profession was out, due to me being a she not a he.
I sure wasn't happy about this piece of news that you can bet!

I got over my unhappiness over the ensuing years.
I found out being a girl wasn't as bad as it was as a kid.
I guess it was worth all the childish tantrums and tears,
but I still think boys got a better deal than all us girls did!

This was written from my 9 or 10 year old perspective...when I was thwarted in my "chosen" professions...and when boys were still icky! LOL.
I changed my mind when I was around 15 or so...~grins~ and have since rejoiced in all things girly. Especially those bubblebaths!!!! ;)
