She reached out with grasping hands
to catch time's quickly running out sands.

Trying in vain to keep things as they are,
she's hoping, praying, and wishing upon a star.

The love and familial surroundings she'd known
was something she thought he had outgrown.

"Why must things change?" She cried in despair.
Wailing and sobbing, she flopped into a chair.

Looking around their house, so cozy and warm.
She wondered why she must weather this storm.

"If he wasn't happy, why didn't he say?"
"Why didn't he come home from work today?"

Just as she was again beginning to wail and to sob,
He walked in, "I'm home. I had to work late at my job."
