The Harvest moon arose as I held her hand in mine

There were no more artificial lights to hinder star shine

Most people had long since left the Earth

and the few of us left witnessed Nature's rebirth

Wiccans, Earth lovers or technology haters

Wood nymphs, elves and satyrs

We stayed behind to make a new life

in a world with no possessions, greed or strife

but my heart longed for the adventure of space

as much as the look of my beloved's face

A meteor shot across the September sky

My wish, though unspoken, made her cry

with a final squeeze her hand dropped mine

She let me go with no reproachful word or sign

Years went by but only one night

The eternal night of space without light

I lived my life traveling alone between stars

in a small spaceship; a prison without bars

Life was long, lonely and friendless

Time passes slowly and seemed endless

Suddenly there was a loud alarm

The ship had strayed into the path of harm

A black hole had gone undetected

My path was hopelessly deflected

by the invisible gravitational force

that left me on a collision course

Like a panther the black hole held me tight

as my ship spiraled into it's death flight

The ship went dark as the systems began to fail

The constellations disappeared behind the dark star's veil

I whispered a wish into the gravity well

A wish for a witch with a magical spell

The whispered sound fell into the black hole

But making the wish achieved was it's goal

For the event horizon was eternally patrolled

by a black cat with eyes green, piercing and cold

Yet it's heart was warmer than it's feral eyes

and it bounded with my wish across the starry skies

and brought to the feet of his mistress my plea

To her crystal ball she hurriedly did flee

while the black cat at her feet purred

The black hole's singularity blurred

Laws of physics bent then broke

My crippled ship suddenly awoke

and a burst of speed set me free

- free of death and my wanderlust that shackled me

The ship set course for my future and my past

and before long I was home at last

with a love that would never die

- with a witch who had waited under the starry sky
