It was the longest night.....

Whirling, twirling around a lit fire.
Swirling, unfurling in a joyous fit of desire.
Ladybug Light and Moonshadow Bright
enjoyed the splendor of the night.

Brightly flickering in the still dark air
the bugs of summer drifted without care.
Drifting clouds covered the Honey Moon
that only comes during the month of June.

It is the 20th of June of this year
Summer Solstice is the celebration happening here.
Ladybug Light and Moonlight Bright dance in delight
on the longest day of the year when dark is still ruled by light.

Smells of incense and herbs that are thrown on the fire
drift outward around those who linger near the pyre.
Sage, Rosemary, Thyme and the woods of Holly and Oak
are burned as days begin to getting shorter at midnight’s stroke.

Just as Winter gives way to Spring,
so must lighted days give way to what dark will bring.
In joy and fun and love and laughter,
we celebrate the now and what comes after.

For now Ladybug Light and Moonlight Bright
dances away the day and into the night.
Scarlett O’Hara had it right when she said with light sorrow,
“Fiddle Dee, I will think about it tomorrow”
