Three o’clock in the morning, something woke me
A sound in the street, a car backfiring, something
And for just a moment, I was back there
1975 and we were in love, young and crazy
like it was that summer in Monte Rio
with the Russian River surging outside the door
marijuana on the table and LSD coursing thru our veins
we were more alive than we had ever been
more alive than we would ever be again
you strummed your guitar while I danced
alone and swaying in the middle of the room
echoes of an old Stones song in my head
I hummed while you played, smiling thru the smoky haze
Loving me like I’ve never been loved since then
And for just a moment, I was back there once more
Loving you and the Stones and Monte Rio
Before I drifted back to sleep here in St Louis
Thirty years too old and several centuries too late
I drifted back to sleep…an old Stones song
Echoing in my head
Wild, wild horses, couldn’t drag me way…
