My Father's Daughter

I was incredibly blessed to be raised by a loving father who although made his mistakes, instilled in me things I'm only now truly understaning. His love of life, family and nature are as much a part of me as my heart and soul.....My Dad was illiterate, but I believe he guided my hand while I wrote this.

I am my father’s daughter
More grateful I couldn’t be
For the awesome gift of loving life
That he instilled in me.

Whenever I asked him questions
The answers were at hand.
And he explained the world to me
In a way I’d understand.

For every living creature
He cared with all his heart,
And though he never went to school
My Dad was very smart!

He knew most things instinctively
Things some may never get!
And the lessons that I learned from him
I’ll never, ever forget!

Dad raised me to be resourceful
Especially when things go wrong,
And when I look inside myself
Things don’t stay bad for long!

He raised me to be compassionate
For those less fortunate souls,
And how the greatest wealth there is
Could never be measured in gold!

My life is as rich as it can be
Every moment an exceptional prize!
And I owe it all to my wonderful Dad,
A man so incredibly wise!

I am my father’s daughter
He’d be so proud of me!
I’m everything he hoped and prayed
I’d turn out to be!

What a fabulous ode to your father! I love the fact that he loved nature and new things that didn't require knowledge of reading and writing but were tied to the land and that he passed them on to you so that you feel comfortable in our busy world. I may just ditch all this busyness and join you on some remote island with no telephone or computer service. But then, I wouldn't be able to be on AD and read this lovely poem.

A wonderful tribute to your father, a wise man remembered and immortalised in your heartfelt words here. I never had a resident father, and my mother never actually raised me. But your words here just made me smile, that you could remember your father so fondly. Thank you for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy ro the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your den sister, Barbie

The pride in your father, so beautifully written here, brought tears to my eyes. The legacy of love and knowledge your father left you cannot be found in books, only in the heart of a man that truly cares for all of God's people. Your words were penned with such love for the father who made you the woman you are today. Magnifent read.

It's so refreshing to read of the love of a daughter for her father when countless millions of words are written of the love for a mother. Anna, though not smart in "book learning", your dad taught that which does not come from a book: self reliance and self respect. He sounds like one really fine man that raised one really fine lady.

Anna, from where I sit, his greatest achievement just might be the self confidence and belief he instilled within you that would allow you to make the statement.... "I’m everything he hoped and prayed I’d turn out to be!"

Nicely penned, a standing O to both you and your father.

Thanks Dick

Wow- this makes me want to crawl out of the wood work and say something.
I profoundly wish more daughters and sons could honestly say the same, and about both parents.
Since losing my Dad 2 years ago my life has almost become just all about remembering him- and getting all he was about.
Your poetry is such a blessing in every way, and reminded me I am my father's son.

Anna, you damn near brought tears in my eyes, and THAT ain't jiving. You are a fortunate person and yes indeed, he did help you write this. I don't believe I have ever read a better poem about a father than what you have put together, I am very touched, Believe that.
