"I’d cross the finish line before you
even got it in second gear!”

Poem Artwork

Once upon a time, a Hare boasted

“I can do the ½ mile in under two

and I’ve never been beaten – any

challengers?”  The Mock Turtle

replied, “I’m throwing down the

gauntlet . . . let’s boogie!”

“You’ve gotta be kidding me Holmes,

I’d cross the finish line before you

even got it in second gear!”  “Care

to wager?”  The forest bookies took

all bets right up to the race; “On your

mark” . . . revolver noise!

The course was exactly ½ mile, but

part of it was across a road – the Hare

took off, turned around and said to

the Mock Turtle, “Eat my dust!” Once

outta sight, the Hare took a nap; he was

passed . . . “See ya!”

Quite anxious to catch-up to and pass

the Mock Turtle, the Hare made a

serious mistake – he crossed the road

without looking both ways, was hit

and the motorist stopped; “Golly gee

George . . . now what?”

A woman driver got out, took a can

out of her purse and sprayed the Hare

He slowly came back to life – thanked

her, got back on the course; turned

around and waved; “What was that?”

“Hair revitalizer . . . with wave!”

The Hare soon passed some hobos in

the woods, had made Mock Turtle soup

Took off like a bat outta hell – didn’t

want to become rabbit stew; won the

race; Moral: “One man’s meat is another

man’s prose . . . son!”

Lance,
It may be my warped sense of humour but this is wickedly funny, and everything about it is right, just everything...particularly liked "The forest bookies..." and (God forgive you) "Hair revitalizer"...too much, too much, but it's just great. Thank you.
