The Day After Yesterday

I am lost today,
Lost in the deep autumn sky,
Remembering yesterday,
When your soft songs,
Still echoed in my heart…

The leaves are falling,
All golden red,
Only a few green ones remain,
But they are aging too…

I am gathering them,
So I can make a bouquet of fire,
To set on my table tonight,

Wondering now,
If they will keep me warm,
When the sun goes down…

The weather has changed,
There is a bite in the air,
Frost is nipping at my feet,
And my hands are cold…

I am remembering yesterday,
And how warm your hands felt in mine,
What a lovely feeling that was!
To walk side by side;
Feeling as if the whole world was mine…

Isn’t it strange how lovers drift apart?
How we forget to find the time,
We once treasured so much?

It’s the day after yesterday,
And I am missing you so much,
Your sweet voice,
Your gentle touch…

Winter is coming dear!
There is a sharp chill in the air,
I feel so lost today,
Wandering aimlessly in my forest,
Wondering if you still care…

A beautiful poem, Reindeer. I liked the central metaphor, of the season change from autumn to winter (as has been mentioned downstairs), which gives a sense of jerkyness in the relanship and dispenses a melancholic atmosphere (like winter itself).

Retta,

Hello old friend! This is beautifully descriptive, I too like the way you have used the seasons to express times passage in a relationship. Yes, we do often ponder much on such it seems, and you as always pen it all so well!

Such brilliance and crispness in this poem! I would love to be lying there with the wolf, eating frozen caribou meat dipped in mustard sauce.

"So I can make a bouquet of fire" is a line I won't soon forget! I can see this fall bouquet sitting on the table so clearly in my mind! I don't see sadness in this poem. I see a very warm, content setting of good memories. Excellent seasonal imagery, Reindeer!
