Dark Existence

In darkness we were birthed,
And lived our sorry lives,
Children who walked so silently,
Daring not to make a sound,
Lest they wake the beast,
That slept underground…

She birthed us and took us home,
Kept in the dark room,
Bottled fed and thrown aside,
It was our ruin…

We never learned to love,
Never knew the word,
Do not mourn for us,
Though we lived in such gloom…

She didn’t know what she did,
Only sought to make us strong,
Stand on your own two feet she hissed,
Get out!
I need the room…

So we left,
But we were too young to survive,
The trials and tribulations of life,
And too many died,
Leaving behind those who wept,
And cried in the darkness,

The sweet darkness,
That hid our tears,
So our fears were not revealed,
And she would not think us weak…

Look how strong I am mother!
Though I bear many scars,
I do not cry nor weep-
Look at me mother!
Do you like what I’ve become?
Am I not the sum,
Of the dreams you had for me?

Strange to see you now,
To listen to what you say,
You raised warriors mother,
Don’t you think we were brave?

I stand over my sister’s grave,
And lay flowers at her feet,
And wonder how you could call her weak,
My God, how strong you had to be,
To draw your sword across your ribs,
And bleed out the pain without crying out…

Do you hear me shouting?
Are you happy now?
Have you found your peace?
God how I loved you!

Sister, Sister,
What did you do?
Wait for me!
I’m coming too…
