Life on the Plateau

I don’t want no aggravation
Give me the peaceful life
One that’s free from consternation
And all that stressful strife.

I’ve got ails enough to last me
Like arthritis tinnitus and such
Old vertigo keeps me spinnin’
Blood pressure don’t jump too much.

My skin’s dark spots keep a-dancin’
And my veins are varicose
Three stents keep my heart a-pumpin’
Even when I’m comatose.

My thyroid stopped a-workin’
Three or four years ago
But thanks to super erector sets
I’ve got leverage down below.

My eyesight’s a fright
My hearing's gone trippin’
My back’s got no back up
My kidneys keep me drippin’.

My best friend’s my bathroom
That’s where I lost my teeth
And if I ever find ‘em
I might regain my spee-sh.

But I am not complainin’
When my memory wants to roam
I can find the local tavern
Jus’ can’t find my way back home.

I would add accidentally biting your own lip and allergies, just a few things beyond the usual blood pressure and arthritis. Very funny!

I think they call that "retirement." That is so funny it almost made me cry. For I have begun to resemble that poem as days go by and by.

Hilarious invite into the world of aging and old age. What isn't wrong as we get older. Such is the way of the world. Great write. John

The Wholly Book of Genesis by Jay Dubya

The Wholly Book of Genesis is a humorous satire on the first book of the Old Testament where the Story of Creation, the building of Noah's Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah and the families of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are thoroughly spoofed and broadsided.
