Poem Artwork

No Place To Stop

Like the poet from the past
Whose name brings to mind
Images of frozen fields on silver mornings,
I wanted to stop by woods
On a snowy evening,
But I could not find woods
And the snow felt like ashes.

So I went to the lake
But the lake was a lie;
A mirage rippled
On its tarmac surface.

So I went to the river
But the river was dry
And its bed was as red
As the surface of Mars.

So I went to the sea
But the waves were caustic
And a sign said, "Beware,
Walk here if you dare."

So I looked to the sky
But the sky was not there;
Just an edge on the eve of beyond,
And no place to stop...

Oh yes, felt like this, I once had no place to stop, was put in a place I didn't like or maybe even deserve, but had to bear with it and better things came out of that stopping place I was forced to bear. I lost my sailing on the lake, and going to the sea, I lost my fishing at the River, for years til I came out and the sky was bluer than ever and life was truer than ever - for a while at least.

YES, REGIS....I REMEMBER FEELING LIKE THIS MANY YEARS AGO...BEFORE I KNEW THE LORD. I HAD NO ONE TO TURN TO...NO PLACE TO STOP. BOY! AM I GLAD THAT HE FOUND ME! WELL DONE AND A KEEPER FOR SURE. A WONDERFUL, SINCERE SHARING OF A SOUL...SEARCHING...FOR PEACE. THANKS FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS YOU. LOVE, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

In fact, we seem to be on the same page as Hank Williams (Long Gone Lonesome Blues -- "I went down to the river to watch the fish swim by; when I got to the river, so lonesome I wanted to cry; but when I jumped in the river, the gol-durn river was dry...") and Chris Rea (Road to Hell, Part 2 -- "Well, I'm standing by a river; but the water doesn't flow; it boils with every poison you can think of; and I'm underneath the streetlight; but the light of joy I know; scared beyond belief, way down in the shadows..." What would Robert Frost make of all of this?

And I went to the sun
But her rays were cold
she froze my heart
with a stroke

And though I bleed
My blood is as white
As river Jordan
Baptizing me in Peace.

(I love your poem, Regi, Huda)

Regis,

A very good write. I had my own interpretation when I read this. Reading through the reviews, I see others saw it differently. When this happens, to me it says, "Great work" because the write lets each reader find their own meaning to the words written. Very deep and thought filled write.

"No Place To Stop" tells a story and delivers a warning entwined troughout its lines.

The message is clear, and echoes: "WAKE UP WORLD, take what you need, but don't kill the rivers; don't kill the vegetation, don't kill the forest; and don't be indfferent."

This poem is a FLOWER in the Vase of Poetry on a Pedestal at the Basilica of the Poets!

I salute You, Sublime Poet!

Oh, yes, dear Regis, I have indeed felt like this... but somehow, Nature has always managed to offer me a place to stop and rest, even when I wasn't receptive or at peace enough to listen to its invitation. This is a very lovely and very touching expression of inner disquietudes.
Thank you for your kindness,
Love&Light,

Wonderful, thought-provoking work Regis...one can see a number of things in these lines including the end of the earth, the end of a relationship, the end of time.......but every end brings a beginning. This is great work - and the artwork accompanying, as usual, is totally on the money - captures the flavor of the words perfectly.

I responded to your poem because the writing, the phrasing and the images allowed me to peek in at this vision and experience a very human level of feeling. It's not easy to see through another's eyes, but your poetry made it happen. This is really a wonderfully emotive piece! katy xox.

An astute observation, Regis!
Someday, though, the desecration of our earth WILL stop,
by the hand of God himself. No landlord was ever known to
burn down his house, because bad tenants defiled it. He
will kick out the destructive tenants, restore the house,
and rent it to some trustworthy people. That is what will
happen to our earth, as well.
