I know I am starting to "sound" redundant. I can't help it. It's more than I am.

Poem Artwork

I Can Tell You

I can tell you
Almost to the moment
Since it is branded on my brain
(I can still see
your carefree wave
your smile
as you tell me all will be well
two years
yesterday
tomorrow
an eternity ago)
Then it happened
As you walked away winking
The sun began to burn too brightly
Blinded my eyes
Scorched my skin
The moon’s smile
Turned into a sneer
Scaring the stars
To barely pale appearance
Birds ceased their singing
Flowers faded wilting
Butterflies fluttered to the ground
Like lively colorful
Dead leaves
That did not want to die
Raindrops’ soothing touch
Started stinging
Offered no rainbow
The sky lost its being there
For me
The color was wrong and still is
Dawn got confused
With dusk
Ironically
I can tell you
It all happened
When the brightness
Of you
On the screen of my life
Faded to black
Your music ended
Leaving only an aching echo
In my soul
And flashes of you
Behind my eyes

It seems that all
Are getting up to leave

But me
I cannot

I PRAY THAT THIS DOESN'T SOUND...RASH OR HEARTLESS, BUT...THIS PAIN YOU WERE FEELING IS DESCRIBED SO BEAUTIFULLY THAT ONE IS ALMOST GRATEFUL THAT YOU EXPERIENCED IT. I KNOW YOU COULD HAVE DONE WITHOUT IT...I KNOW IT HURT TERRIBLY AND I AM SORRY, BUT...I SO APPRECIATE THIS 'TREASURE' THAT YOUR BROKENESS BROUGHT FORTH. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS EXCELLENT PIECE...GOD BLESS AND LOVE,

I decided to delve into some of your past poetry, Regis, and I'm glad I did. This is such a beautiful and poignant piece that perfectly conveys the feelings of lost love and togetherness. I'm afraid it's too familiar at times, but it's also a lovely thing. So, even though it has its sad side, you uplifted me anyway...Jerry

This is chilling. Leaves questions: Did she die? Leave you and make you think she was coming back until she winked? Have you had a lot of death and you cannot follow your loved ones? Or are they all off to new things and you're stuck/ Don't answer. My mind loves playing with these things. Good job

Totally knockout, Regis, and a pulsating, finger-on-the-button write as always. You have an amazing ability to be able to capture the quintessence of a special moment and to freeze-frame it with your own brand and stamp of authentication. Especially in the case of what you are describing here. The lines "It seems that all Are getting up to leave But me I cannot" just totally blow me away: you sound like me - if I am "stuck in the moment", I can't believe how others can be just "getting on with life". The burning retina/eye thing really strikes a chord, too. Scintillating as always, but I am so sorry for your pain. "Goodbye" is not a word I am good with at the best of times... it is even worse when the parting is not equally balanced and felt. BIG HUGS!! lol kATE XX

"Your music ended..."

Sheer poetry, Regis... a simple expression with huge impact! You need not preface as you have up there, for you are among "your own" here and Ed's correct... the healing process, for we who write, begins with scraping our gut and putting it into words. This is one of your best from a poetry standpoint AND from a human one. katy xox
