At last I chase these aching thoughts of you From my soul one by one bittersweet memories of our affair in this brief life like ephemeral butterflies rising from a meadow they vanish in the dark forest beyond my consciousness and leave my soul empty and white like the meadow all ready waiting for winter and the snow Thus am I allowed to wallow in wistful masochistic melancholy while waiting for another to fill the void
Reading this poem with a pause after each line does not create for a smooth flow and makes for a disruptive read because of it. Rearranging the lines may help fix this issue. Hope you understand what I am trying to say here. Perhaps that is just me though...
The content is great and moving and one readers will relate to. I know I do! Thank you for sharing.
Can another truly fill the void? If they can, I think it was never what we imagined it to be in the first place. Bittersweet, indeed. Touches this heart, Regis! ~Hugs, Elizabeth
YES!...YOU CAME THROUGH AND SURVIVED!!! STILL LIMPING, A HEART THAT IS ON THE ROAD TO COMPLETE RECOVERY.... 'MOVES ON'. THANKS FOR SHARING. BLESSINGS AND LOVE, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

A lovely dark dream this seems to paint--"pain is ... unique"--I tend to love bitter sweet, for some reason--well titled and well written.
Excellent write I love your honesty! and I pray that God Himself will heal and fill every void Regis! You really have a beautiful gift that is much appreciated and loved! Be encouraged and may the Lord always bless and sustain you in all that you are going through!
Regis,
I don't often read or disagree with others' comments, but I have to disagree with one of the comments this time. I think this poem captures the perfect metaphor for that in-between time, waiting for love to strike once more. It's foolish to hop into another relationship when the previous one was so special. After the "butterflies" fly off, the healing begins, thus the field waiting ready for snow. It's a time of reflection, self-awareness, and processing. You store the good times and hopefully let the bad times go. You titled this one perfectly! Love and Hugs,
Sheila
The last 4 lines of this ruin it a bit. It's like you state all these absolutely gorgeous images and reveal a person who had grown like a butterfly and then add on those 4 lines of a person who has yet to realize that the only person to fill that void is themself-because until we can love and like being with ourselves, we never WILL fill the void we all naturally have, I love this poem so much, that the ending threw me off as this is a beautiful poem.
This is a beautiful rendition of moving on. While thoughts of the past would like to linger a little bit more, the heart is ready for a fresh start to venture once more into a newness that can fill the void left by 'bittersweet memories'. Another work of art, Reg.
bittersweet fruit, like bittersweet chocolate lingers on for a while, you captured that wonderfully in words and picture! Much healing my friend! Jasmin Horst

I love the way your poems just piece together and don't leave you thinking there's a piece missing. I love your poetry when put together leaves abeautiful picture to enjoy.
Affairs' sometimes leave bittersweet turmoil in our soul. Our thought pattern consumes the moments entwined in such bliss. Until the season's change and time standing still and alone, leave the heart open for another. Regis, this poem was spectacular, I loved it.
The picture was a perfect selection for this poem. Bravo!
I don't think this is a sad poem, there's a resignation in the words and a moving on. I love the imagery as I have in a number of your poems; you take us there, to the woods and meadows to see the butterflies rise and into your emotions.
Beautiful
It takes courage and genuine heartfelt desire to bare our souls on the alter of public criticism. I admire your work my friend and feel your intent. Thank you for having the balls to share.......

Beautiful, painful and necessary, Regis. We must allow emotions' tap to run and run until the pent-up and "tarnished" waters run clear again, purged and re-energised, all the toxins gone. THEN what remains are remembrances pure and life-giving; redeeming the creative and soul-building elements of the past relationship and not it's screw-turning bullet points. So agree with Nordette and others, who see this fallow and winter field more as the virgin canvas which just awaits the fresh breath of inspiration to colour it; a vast space full of potential for hope and la piece de resistance. Your life and soul are a masterpiece and with every poem we are privileged to share a part of it's unveiling. You feed our souls as you yourself are fed. Spring WILL come, Regis; allow yourself some foetal winter sleep... every tear bottled to fall as dew again on fresh spring blades which will be even greener ... Bless you and my prayers for peace and refreshment. LOL Kate xx
Beautiful write... I do the same thing when a relationship ends. I write a farewell letter then read it to a friend and then burn it, then it is real...

Reg,
This is such a soulfilled beautifully expressed poem. It's gorgeous! Noone else could express these feelings so honestly and beautifully as you. You and this poem are a masterpiece! The soul and heart must release the darkness to fill with the light, the Light is always and always will be greater than the darkness. The butterflies will be born and fly free in the meadow, more beautiful than those previous now vanishing into the forest. I love the way you expressed that. Your minds eye from your heart and soul is Superb!!

Your pen is golden, Regis and your ability to paint a picture of an emotion exceptional. It is sad when we lose a love, but if we can take the time to learn to love ourselves as much or more than we loved that other, we will be fine...and when the next "one" comes along, ready to greet them without the load of baggage from the last "one". Regrouping is both sad and empowering at the same time.
Take care,

Here you've written another out-standing
piece! Really Good work!!
Gorgeous poem, but you know my view on this otherwise. That Michelle Close Mills hit it. :-)
Snow, pristine casket cover of Earth,
securing secrets of a heart on winter's holiday...
In darkness of extended chill and echoless sighs,
within the frozen shroud, frost bites,
working mysteries with wisdom,
preserving seeds for a season
until the universe releases door keys
to blooms, vibrant fields of healing color,
purple, blue, marigold, and you,
all new and ready for no ordinary love.
Reg, only God is able to fill voids...people will disappoint us, or fail us in some way. Only God can be there in all the ways that count. Be well my friend. Michelle
this says so much about life in general and the truth that we only learn with age and a lot of bitter lessons. Life does go on and another is always there to fill the empty gap if we allow it, but is it the one we truly want? Only you can answer that.
Dear Regis,
It is not necessary to forget but to accept. Beautiful moments are never lost. Find wholeness in of yourself and offer that to the world. You are a special human being with so much to offer. I pray you find the love you crave and that it is returned in full measure. As always you write with such feeling. Who can fail to be moved?
