Writings for families... My very first blog was about a funeral I was getting ready to attend. Well, Yesterday would have been that young man's 25th birthday. Earlier in the week I sent the parents a note to check out my website and read a poem on it. A couple of days later, I received a very warm and touching email from the Mom. The poem "Joyful Memories" was a gift they didn't expect. Then she asked if she could put it in the paper. Of course, I said "yes." Yesterday, it appeared in our newspaper with a thank you for writing for them. I also got to meet this young man's brother and sister-in-law. There is no doubt he is missed and was loved. It was a very special moment in time, one I'll never forget and one I'm glad I got to experience.
By far, writing for a deceased child is extremely difficult. The finished product never seems quite good enough. But everytime, I've been showered with a warm "Thank You." This is what writing is about...
