Why can't March break last longer? 3/15/2006 3:59:04 PM
March break is passing in a blur, and I am trying to cram about two months worth of writing into it. I have been editing "Rain," and it is slow going. I often spend a whole afternoon or even day, on one passage, wanting to get it just right. For example, I spent all day yesterday, just doing research for, and writing a segment about the 1987 Madonna concert in Toronto. I had to keep going online, to check dates and costumes and lyrics, to authenticate it, and then I had to see it and write it through the eyes of Felicity, aka Emily. After I finished that segment, I began to work on my new children's book, about Afghani refugee children in Canada, called "Does Anybody Here Speak Farsee?" I drew on my experiences as an ESL teacher, with these children. I definitely learned as much from them, about their lives, as they learned about me. I even learned a few Afghani words. This book was inspired by Rosemarie Skaines book, "The Experience of Afghanistan Women Under the Taliban." Hope everybody is enjoying the waning days of winter.
