Has anyone heard of Borat? Of course you have. Sadly, I think everyone has.
I went to Blockbuster Video today to rent a movie. Peter, the poster boy for a "yeah, I saw it" sign looked up from behind his counter and smiled. I was only four days late. He never charged me, manager's perogative. "So have you seen Borat", Peter bellowed out. I can't say I have. Taping a DVD case in my hand. I had been late and not been charged often enough to not refuse his gesture.
How bad could it be? Maybe I could put it on when I get that writer's block syndrome.
... guess what happened. Yep, Writer's Block! Kicking back on my couch I started the DVD. A few minutes later and I was looking for a crack pipe and trying to naw my arm off. I mean come on. This is the worst movie ever. It ranks higher than, Ssssss (An old 1973 movie with Dirk Benedict, he gets turned into a snake).
Not only was I ticked at the stupid and retarded movie; I felt my I.Q. dropping with each second. Trust me, my IQ is important. Some day I hope to a number of 75 or higher. <<<That was a joke. I can't even describe how bad it was.
It is not that the movie was poorly made or had bad diologue. It was just bad. The problem is that prople have flocked to see it. I'm all for expression and art for art's sake. This movie is a statement for our current era in human culture. So what happened?
I love to disect screen plays and novels. I love to see what the artist was trying to get across. To educate myslef in new ways. I felt stupid as I watched Borat. I got angry. How could this movie have created such a "buzz"? There have been better "B" and even "F" movies.
I really cannot even form a tangible thought on this. Maybe the movie has had a real affect on me? My grammer, spelling and consentration are but gone. Maybe I should take up crack or coke to understand what i just experinced? Maybe then I would feel better?
I weep for my children's future. What will they have to compare to. I.E., what will be bad and what will be art in say.... fifty years?
