My own autobiography documentary film 6/18/2007 12:59:20 PM
While in Austin Texas I was interviewed for a legal group I work with for a education cd. In the end the media group made me my own documentary. Last May I wrote about meeting Laura Bush and Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson at a Child Abduction luncheon. It was hosted by and for the new regional office of the National Center for the Missing and Exploited Children.
Later that day I testified before the state congress for a revolutionary child abduction bill. This bill would have helped in the fight against parental abduction. Sadly the bill was shot down on final vote in the senate. Oh well, never give up and never surrender!
The next day a media company in Austin interviewed me for a educational program dealing with parental child abduction. The experience was a great honor. To know that my words, childhood story and experience could be used as a learning tool felt very humbling. The greatest gift we can give is to serve our common man and our children.
The video crew shot my two hour interview at the Austin High School library. This was the same library that President G.W. Bush’s daughters attended. The young men had been classmates of the two young women and knew the school very well.
Sitting in that chair while the young men plugged in their equipment I took in the room. Like everything I had experienced in Austin that week I quickly fell in love with the school. It sat by the river and had a sweet pollen smell in the air.
Brandon asked me to take a seat while his colleague started asking questions.

It is one thing to stand in a large room and give a speech about child abduction. You realize that when you leave they will not remember your face but hopefully remember your words. When you put voice and image to film it is a whole different set up stripes and spots… I tried my best to keep my mind on what was at hand.
The interview ended about two hours later. I answered a few questions and finished my appointment. Walking back to my car amongst the trees I could not help but feel a little “cool”. I could not wait to get my video.
Early this month I received a phone call from Austin Media Group. Brandon called and said he had finished the video. He had done more than that. He had gone far beyond. He had created a documentary for me. He had infused both pictures and documents in the interview footage. His company had been paid for a simple interview for a legal firms DVD. He had made a piece of art, a film. All the features were there. Proper lighting, sound, direction and focus made this a winner in my mind.
I await the final product. I plan to use the video as a tool for my own education. Since I have also had difficulty finding an agent or publisher I plan to submit a fifteen minute version of the documentary into my manuscript. The hope is that along with word and font my voice and story told will help the editor see the importance of such a work.
