A look at the purpose of afflication This morning,as I was preparing for the day, I heard the word"contrition."
The meaning being a deep and sincere sorrow that brings about true repentance.
But what does this have to do with afflictions?
Many years ago when I was called by God to the ministry,HE said," Many even in the Body of Christ are badly wounded and some are missing in action."
So often in my attempt to comfort others,
I will share PSALM 147:3 which records:
"HE heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.'
At a greater understanding of why there are. some wounds,or afflictions if you will, the word of God states,
"Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation but wordly sorrow brings death."- 2 Corinthians 7"10
In Proverbs 14:12 we are told that there is a way that seems tight to a man but in the end is death.
In true repentance there is spirit and life. Just voicing a regret does not bring the divine order of spiritual BLESSINGS that God has planned for our lives.
Now let's look at the process endured to better understand the purpose.
The LORD is close to the brokehearted and to those of a crushed spirit.- PSALM 34:18
"Many are the afflctions of the righteous but the LORD
will deliver him out of them s
all." -Psalm 34:19.
The following clarified for me the divine purpose.
The psalmist,King David, wrote:
"It is good for me that I have been afflicted that I may know your statues.+ PSALM 119:71
In other words called to a tight relationship with God moves us from a carnal
nature to a renewed life in Him.
When we think about it some of our most productive and beneficial lessons came through the discipline of our parents and struggles of life.
Certainly GOD ABBA (DADDY) FATHER disciplines the children HE LOVES,knowing that we are sustained by grace,protected by mercy,yet in affliction we will seek Him.
