CELEBRATING GOSPEL MUSIC 6/10/2019 10:49:30 AM
A celebration of significance during Black MUSIC Month Gospel music notably and fervently releases spiritual yet emotional energy. It expresses a heartfelt revelation which gives testimony of a true and living God.
Gospel music is the good news presented in melodic and inspired words in a symphony of praise.
So inherent to the worship experience,
that the command and instruction to make a joyful noise is the apt response to PSALM 100:4!
When I reflect on the significance to the lyrical,life sustaining verses, these three aspects,for me, ring true:
1. It affirms not only that God is but who He is in attributes,character and relationship as GOD; FATHER,SON,HOLY SPIRIT.
2. It gives response to the goodness of God Most High with songs such as:
"When I think of His goodness and all He's done for me..."
"He is real,real in my soul today..."
" Trouble don't last always"
3. It surely rejuvenates in blessed assurance that God is Faithful and True.
Now,as we celebrate this month,recognition and honor must be given to Mr. Thomas A. Dorsey who is said to be"The Father of Gospel Music."
History records that Mr.Dosey fought many spiritual battles in his search and desire to know and serve God. His early ministry,often rejected by the ministers of his day,left him discouraged and ensnared by the ways of the world. But, personal sorrows pointed him back to the LORD GOD and acknowledging His holiness.
The 1920's brought the term"gospel songs"and Mr. Dorsey's repetoire brought us some of the most sacred and celebrated sons in gospel music history. Songs such as:
"There'll Be Peace in the Valley"
"I'm Going to Live the Life I sing About in My Song' and written after the death of his wife (and most reverentlysung);
"Precious LORD Take My Hand."
Thank you Mr. Dorsey and others such as James Cleveland,Mahalia Jackson,Roberta Martin,Sally Martin and the Caravans,Albertina Walker ,Shirley Caesar,Jesse Dixon,The Five Blind Boys and more!
And to celebrate this month
and beyond,just as Mr. Dorsey, I want to live the life I Ding about in my(GOSPEL) song.
