Filling in the daily blanks.
We're all basically involved in the same thing, facing up to blanks of some sort or another and filling them in.
What kind of blanks, you ask? Any and all kinds of blanks as they occur throughout our days and over months as they speed by.
What a blessing to be able to live long enough to develop and use a few innate gifts to share with others.
Patricia A. Oplinger received 3rd Place in the Grand Conference Award II for her personal essay “Love Gives Itself”; 2nd Place in the Village Writers of Hot Springs Village Award for her essay “The Teacher Who Was Most Influential in My Life”, at the 68th Annual Arkansas Writers' Conference in Little Rock on June 1-2, 2012 where her speech, “Words: Powerful, Playful, Persuasive” was well received.
At the White County Creative Writers’ 17th Annual conference held at Harding University in Searcy, AR, September 1,2012 Patricia A. Oplinger was awarded 3HM in the Yin/Yang Verse Poem about Rhymed verse category for “Free-Rhyming Poetry”. “Experiencing the Blues” was the title of her Got the Blues Prose Award, 2nd Place winner.
October 6, 2012 poet and author Patricia A. Oplinger appeared at the Artisan’s Co-Op in Calico Rock, AR. She read Cherokee poetry and prose throughout the day At the museum there in commemoration of a Native American Day celebration. Calico Rock sits in former Cherokee territory on a branch of the “Trail of Tears”.
Patricia A. Oplinger participated in the 56th Annual Mid-South Poetry Festival at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn on October 20, 2012 sponsored by the Poetry Society of Tennessee. Jim Barton, nationally-recognized poet, resident of the Arkansas Delta, offered a morning poetry workshop for members. Pat participated in a members’ Read Around performing “Together” from In the Playhouse of My Mind Volume I from her Circle of Life Trilogy, and placed 1st. She received 3rd HM for “First Time” in the Carolyn Hauer Leggett Memorial category.
Publisher Grandmother Earth has requested permission to publish a re-print of “Peace” from In the Playhouse of My Mind Vol. I of Circle of Life Trilogy in their 2013 anthology yet to be titled.
Pat, with fellow poet CJ Clark, offered a Novice Writers Workshop for Writers’ Ink in Jonesboro, Arkansas on October 18, 2012 at the Jonesboro public library.
Patricia A. Oplinger lives in Cherokee Village, Arkansas, and holds degrees in music, English literature, elementary education and administration from West Chester and Scranton Universities in Pennsylvania. Oplinger’s award-winning essays, book reviews, columns and travel and humor articles have appeared in newspapers, literary magazines and online. Her poetry has been published in A Time to be Free, passager – A Journal of Remembrance and Discovery, Thinking Aloud/Allowed, Trail of Thoughts, Echoes of the Ozarks, Grandmother Earth and The Circle of Life Trilogy with South Carolina artist Carol L. Funke. Oplinger is a member of the National League of American Pen Women, the International Women’s Writing Guild, the Ozark Writers’ League and the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. In 1997 she established and continues as a mentor for The Storybook Project, a literacy/prison ministry program in Arkansas.
