Day After Thanksgiving

Shopping with kids can be relaxing if you approach from the right direction.
I wanted to share my experience of shopping with my children on the Day After Thanksgiving. We decided to sleep in and thought we would get going around 10 am. I knew from experience that shopping on this day is stressful and I could count on possibly doubling the stress level by having my 8, 13, and 14 year old children with me. I also thought it could be an adventure.
I decided to try a new approach. Before heading out the door, we stood in a circle holding hands and each talked about things that he or she was thankful for...then each of us talked about a couple of things we might like for Christmas. We ended by saying the Lord's Prayer together.
We got in the car and started our adventure. My kids did not ask excessively for things while we were shopping. They said thank you for everything-including just having something to drink. We maintained light hearted and happy thoughts throughout the day and when we returned home (after it started snowing like mad), I was not exhausted.
My take away message from this experience is to lift everything up in prayer:) I wish everyone a very Happy, Peaceful Holiday Season.
