Are the world leaders right to pump billions into the banks? 3/5/2009 3:50:49 AM
Let me know your thoughts on what the leaders should do to recover from this economic melt down...
If you are religious is it sign of the times we are living in?
Tell me what you think, this is what i believe... This is the ideal opportunity to lay down a modern foundation to develop and invest for future generations.
Yes I agree we are in a world with grave financial problems and a fiscal stimulus is required to safeguard and energize the economy by pumping billions into short term fixes. The money the banks received should be used to clear away their bad debt and give them a clean sheet to have the confidence to lend to small business and individuals.
But is this not the time to grasp the initiative to stimulate the economy and create jobs by building new schools, hospitals and affordable housing.
And importantly to take in to consideration that this is the platform and an acceptable time for the Government to put into practice ‘green initiatives’. Renewable energy sources such as Bio-fuels, Hydroelectric, Solid Biomass, Waste to energy, Solar and Wind, you tell us to switch off lights or make sure the TV is turned off and then you want to expand airports and add extra runways?
How good would it be for my country or yours to see these announcements on our infrastructure;
New hospitals with modern and up to date equipment, 24/7 walk in centres with emergency prescriptions available.
To build around the country sporting centres of excellence, from 12-16 year olds in conjunction with the national curriculum but the main emphasis is on the chosen sport. The centres to be linked to professional clubs and official bodies in the area and country.
Ex-professionals to be used as teachers in their field of expertise, also from ages 16-18 to take a course in physiotherapy or sports psychology.
Design and build Eco centres with farm animals, with career skills being taught such as agricultural and farming skills, veterinary courses with cooking and catering knowledge.
Pump the money into the housing associations so they can build new energy efficient, affordable housing and apartments.
Is it not the time to bring forward building new roads, look at mono-rails etc.. it’s the ideal opportunity to bring together the airline and car manufacturing industry to see how they can put on the table practical solutions in an ever changing world for the consumer instead of looking at the money in their banks.
Is it not the time to look at and completely overhaul the benefits system, does it not cost over 400 billion a year…
I’m going to generalise hear and totally understand not all areas or individuals can be grouped into this, but you have to blame governments over the years that have caused deprived areas in my country, what about yours?
Unfortunately some of the low income areas, council estates and poor social communities breed ASBO, crime, drugs, gangs, poverty, vandalism and unemployment. Is it not easier for some people in these areas to live of the state rather than get a job, or a young woman that has children with her unmarried partner or even a single mother with several children by different men to play the system because they know what benefits they are entitled. Then it just becomes a vicious circle…
Is it not time to take a step back and see what these areas need…employment, stable families, quality education, investment and communication meetings where they can challenge their local Politician.
I think, these areas require unemployed training workshops to grasp the basic principles in getting a job, linked to skill sessions where they can develop courses in IT, Mechanics, Art and Design, Secretarial, Electrician, Teachers etc..etc
Unfortunately you need to get tough and not let people sponge..
Single mums, no free house and financial assistance for first five years only.
This does not apply for single parents through divorce.
Unemployment benefit, paid from 18-25, while on training course and must take one job from five offers or lose benefit.
For people that have lost their job, this does not apply.
Anyone one of us could have been born into this environment, but not one of us is born with criminal intent, hatred of religion, colour or police or even have murder in mind, but we would probably grow up in an environment where we would soon fall into a sense of no hope and starved of opportunity because of the area we live or family background we have…
The government has a responsibility to be fair and equal and invest with training, quality education, with councils to make sure these areas are clean and picturesque as possibly can be with stiffer penalties for lack of human decency in some cases and get bigger funding from the private sector to create a safer and long term prospect of jobs and wealth for the people that live there.
